Cody Ross signs with D'Backs
According to Jim Bowden With the Diamondbacks signing of Cody Ross does this mean that Jason Kubel gets traded...or maybe even Justin Upton? hmmmmmm

I'd love to grab Parra.

Re: Cody Ross signs with D'Backs
I'd gladly take Parra or Upton. Para would be a great defensive left fielder for us. About the same on base skills and more power than Bourn. Probably could steal 20-25 bags if given 500+ abs. Edit: I'm also really glad Ross is off the market.

Hinske could also be available.

RE: Cody Ross signs with D'Backs
Even with the success in Winter leagues of Francisco and Gattis the Braves are reportedly still talking to teams trying to obtain a leadoff hitter. LH or RH doesn't matter for Leadoff. For non leadoff players the rumor is only RH LF or RH 3B run producers interests the team.

Eaton, Parra, Upton, and Kubel is a pretty good OF. I'd have passed on Ross if I'm Towers. he must have something in the makings.
I'd love to have Parra, but more than likely they're going to work out a trade with Texas for Upton.

RE: Cody Ross signs with D'Backs
3/26, 4th year is an option 1M buyout. I assume if they except it it's around 7 or 8 M like the rest.
Again why I'm ok with Gattis or Francisco.
That said I'd go knocking on the door for any of those guys from Arizona.
I assume their starting OF is something like
LF - Ross CF - Eaton RF - Upton
Ross obviously can move to RF as well but I would guess that likely means that for a price, Upton, Kubel, Parra, or Pollack can be had. They also signed Hinske who may or may not play in the majors.
Upton is obviously a star and would command a haul. Parra and Kubel are opposite sides of the same value player. Parra isn't much of a hitter but would be an excellent defender in LF. Kubel can hit pretty well, but is massively bad in the field. Of the 2 I'd easily prefer Parra. Pollack is intriguing. He's basically the same age as Parra but had a different development track. Parra an international signee made his stateside debut at 19 and was in the majors in less than 4 years made the majors, Pollack was a college draftee who probably would have made the bigs by now except that in 2010 he missed the season with elbow injuries. He's basically performed on par with Parra, but has more power potential, now will that be recognized? who knows. But either of them for the right price could be good bottom of the order hitters who give us great defense in LF.
That said, judging by other moves the D-Backs have made (like trading Bauer for Gregorious) I would think maybe they'd be open to a Medlen, Francisco, and more prospects for Upton.

RE: Cody Ross signs with D'Backs
I Wren trades a SP outside of Delgado or Teheran he needs to be fired. Our Rotation is weak right now it doesn't need to be made worse by a trade for a under achieving player

I'd take Parra from the DBacks.
But i'm not sure what it would take.

Sure there are questiosn but we have 2 vets who're locks to be solid (unless they get hurt) in Hudson and Maholm. We have Minor who should improve on his campaign from last year, we have 2 excellent prospects in Julio and Randall, we have Medlen who should be great, we have guys in the wings who should be able to step i nand be effective. IF we trade Medlen sure it would hurt us, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Especially if we get someone like Justin Upton who has more potential than anyone in baseball.

Having just 1 of Deglado and Teheran in our ratation is ok but going with both is a disaster waiting to happen. And no this isn't going to happen so no need to talk about it anymore.

Jayson Stark is saying that the Diamondbacks are working on trading an outfielder. Kubel seen as the most likely to go.

Would you trade the Juan for Kubel or Parra?
For me, Parra yes, Kubel no. Close call on Parra. Not close at all on Kubel.

PARRA? This is just a lateral move. You trade to get better. How is getting the Dbacks bench guy getting better? Unless it is or Upton why other?

whammer10 wrote: PARRA? This is just a lateral move. You trade to get better. How is getting the Dbacks bench guy getting better? Unless it is or Upton why other? Parra has a .340 career OBP against righties, plays very good defense and is a good baserunner. I think he and Reed Johnson would make a lead-off/left field platoon. I don't think Parra is a better player than Juan overall. But we have a specific need for someone to hit lead-off against righties. He can provide that and the Juan can't. Of course we could try Prado or Simmons at leadoff when the Juan is playing. It is a close call. But I think for the team as currently constituted, Parra is a better fit.
