Rangers tried to trade for Simmons...
Per USA Today, on rotoworld...
To try and flip him in a deal for Justin Upton.
Makes no sense when they have Andrus/Profar.
Also have no idea what they could of possibly sent us. Profar, Olt, Beltre are only possible chips. " Jordy Nelson > Larry Fitzgerald- Zito "

Just checked it out. They don't wanna trade their SS for Upton but wanted to use Simmons. What could they have offered us? Olt maybe??

Had to be Olt they offered?? Cruz would fit in LF as our RH power hitter but is a FA after next year so wouldn't be close to getting Simmons. Seems to show Olt could possibly be had though. A deal built around Teheran or Delgado could make sense for both teams...

Rangers really don't want to give up Profar and the D-Backs probably aren't nearly as interested in Andrus since he's only under control for a couple more seasons. He's not going to be a centerpiece for a guy like Upton. So that would explain why the Rangers would be shopping for a SS of Simmons's caliber to flip for Upton and enable them to keep Profar. D-Backs reportedly aren't high on Olt either.
But if I'm Frank Wren, Andrelton Simmons is virtually untouchable. I'd have to be blown away with a no-brainer offer and the Rangers aren't going to do that.

Yes that's what they are saying. The Dbacks want Simmons and the Rangers want to hang onto Andrus and Profar. I'm sure we would get Upton is we were willing to include Simmons. It's tempting because of the upside of Upton but I don't think we can make that deal.
Would you trade Simmons as part of a deal for Upton and sign a guy like Stephen Dew?

What about a 3 way deal where Texas gets Upton and Teheran and we send Simmons to the Dbacks and we get for Olt and Andrus. I'd do that.

Sounds like the rangers want Andrus and Profar.
Olt for Simmons isn't good for us b/c it just trades one hole for another. If we trade Simmons we need to fill two holes, and fill them long term IMO.

I think I might have to do that trade as bad as it would hurt to lose Simmons. I love the idea of having Heyward, Olt, Freeman as our 3,4,5 for years to come. Also Andrus would be great while he's here and possibly Ahmed would be ready to take over by the time Andrus hits free agency. |

Thats why u add Teheran n the deal. Id throw n EOF to. EOF, Teheran, and Simmons for Andrus an Olt if do all day.

Asdrubal to Dbacks
Upton to Braves
Teheran to Indians
Obviously there would be other pieces in the trade but just for a starting point.

Because of salary and controllable years you don't do Simmons for Upton straight up. But let's say the Braves offer Simmons + 2 C prospests for Upton and Trevor Bauer. This would allow you to flip one of Maholm/Hanson/Delgado/Teheran/Bauer to the Twins for Span/Revere.
Like someone mentioned above, sign Drew for 1 yr/$6 - $8 mm.
Span/Revere - CF
Prado - 3B
Heyward - RF
Upton - LF
Freeman - 1B
Uggla - 2B
McCann/catcher - C
Drew - SS
Hudson
Medlin
Minor
