Haren

Haren

Can Haren be had via trade or is he untouchable?

Angels fan wondering what we could do if Lackey signs elsewhere, and I have always been a fan of Haren.

Re: Haren

The only real untouchables on the Diamondbacks are Max Scherzer and Justin Upton.

Certainly there is the core here that we don't want to break (Drew, Reynolds, Haren, Montero) but I wouldn't call them untouchable. That said, we would have to be BLOWN AWAY to trade Haren. He's signed for another few years at a pretty cheap price, and with the uncertanty of our rotation with Davis and Garland gone and Webb coming off a major injury (assuming we even pick up his option), Haren is exceptionally valuable to us.

The Angels called us at the trade deadline about Haren this year, and our GM said he's not going anywhere.

In short, I don't want to say 'untouchable', but he's the next closest thing. We would want the farm for him for sure, so I wouldn't get your hopes up about it.

Re: Haren

Thanks.  What do you think a deal with Webb would involve?  Kid of selling low coming off of injury but my guess is that they picked up his option with hopes of trading him now or at the deadline since he wants to test the free agent market next year.

Re: Haren

Webb will not be delt in the offseason. However if the Dbacks stumble out of the gate and struggle as they did this season, I would think Webb would be prime trade bait. He would certainly be of great intrest to contending teams looking to add an ace calibar starter.

If I was Josh Byrnes, I would be intriqued by Howie Kendrick. He seems to have fallen out of favor with the Angels, and they have the middle infield depth to part with him. I have always thought highly of him. The Dbacks have depth at 2B (Tony Abreu, Rayl, Roberts, Ojeda) but nobody who I forsee really solidifying the position for the next couple of years.

RHP Webb and AAA C Luke Carlin for 2B Kendrick,  AAA righty Robert Mosebach and AA C Hank Conger would get a deal done for me.

Counter proposal??

Re: Haren

How do the catchers rate?

Kendrick and Mosebach straight up for Webb?

Re: Haren

Throw in a AA reliever with decent stuff and you have a deal if I'm GM...

Also, its official. Dbacks just picked up Webbs 8.5 mil option officially.

RE: Haren

At the deadline if the D-backs are out of contention and Webb has struggled all year.... then maybe.

As for Haren, I doubt the Angels have a package of prospects as good as the one the D-backs used to acquire him two years ago. Haren has since exceeded all expectations, so while he's not technically untouchable, it's hard to imagine how such a deal could get done.

RE: Haren

"Kendrick, Mosebach, Rodriguez for Webb"

Done. I'll sign off on it right now!!

That move would save the Dbacks a tad over 8 million this year, and we'd be solidifying 2B for the long term, strengthening our bench as Abreu/Robets/Ryal would be back ups, as well as getting 2 pretty good pitching prospects. One of which could be in line for a big leauge job in spring training. With the 8 mil coupled with the 15 mil we have to spend this offseason, we would have 23 million left over to sign a reliever or 2 as well as a #2 type starter like John Lackey, as well as enough to bring back Doug Davis for the #4 spot.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.
