New commitment (2013 class)

JUCO LB Larry Butler committed to New Mexico State.  He expects to sign early this week.  I'll return with a link to an article later this evening.

I think this is the link.

He has had some grade issues.  I hope those are resolved and he is on track to be eligible this fall.

Re: New commitment (2013 class)

Looks like he has more SLOW issues from the film I have seen. Big Kid, maybe I am wrong but doesnt seem to read and react quickly and plays way too high. And if he is slow of foot he will get smothered by good D1 Lineman.  JMHO  Prove me wrong young Butler, Please.  Go reach your potential and I will eat crow!!! GO AGGIES!!

He supposedly was listed as the number 1 juco LB by some publications. his 40 time is listed here as 4. which looks about right.

Yes I looked at that film and to be honest he was first at the ballcarrier 2 times out of the whole film. I wont even bring up that most of this film is from practice??? Practice???Damn, a D1 kid better dominate at practice!

Dont shoot the messenger. I just think based on his FILM it is not impressive. JMHO  The Rocha kid from HS we got from St Bonaventure I think is 20 times the player and he is out of High School.

Like I said, I hope Mr Butler III proves me wrong and I would hope that is the case. But I do like his size but he needs to work on his footwork and reading the play at snap.  All those things can be fixed if he wants to fix them.  But a JUCO kid should be more polished in my opinion.  GO AGGIES!!

I disagree with you. I think he is pretty good.

Re: New commitment (2013 class)

I am not saying he isnt very good. But if you can point out to me at what point timeframe in his highlights where he is reading, reacting and first to the play let me know.

Like I said, dont shoot the messenger and I am sure the Coaching staff had alot more to go off of with this kid. At least I hope so. I dont make a living being a coach so I would assume the staff has done more research and homework than I have done plus KNOW tons more than me.

I hope the kid becomes an All American and makes me look like a dumbass!! I would prefer that then him not panning out.

I think he IS pretty good. But if he was ranked as the #1 JUCO LB he better be more than Pretty Good. Dont you agree???

But I am sure the staff saw him as a good pick up so I will go with that.

GO AGGIES!!

I thought he was fine reading his key and reacting to the blocking scheme. The one thing I would of liked to see more of him doing was shooting the gaps.

I think we recruited him to play OLB in our 3-4.

Agreed. There isnt a player on ANY team perfect and the its up to the Coaches to get him to play to 100% of his potential.

And I have every confidence that DC Elson and the new LB coach will.  No Worries

Go Aggies!!

Yep, So until another school offers a kid you think that kid is not worthy of a D1 ride?? Colin Kaepernick was only offered by Nevada. Goes to show that Coach Ault up there didnt look to websites to confirm what he saw in a kid.

This years ALL PAC12 team was comprised of mostly 3 star kids and maybe (2) 4 stars with not one 5star making the team. So dont get all caught up in stars or how many offers a kid has.

Just to be fair, not sure Butler took any trips but a verbal offer is only as good as a kids verbal commitment, both hold NO weight. Until the LOI is issued its not a commitable offer. I am only stating fact that ALL these sites are biased. Take Kalei the Hawaii kid, Funny when he came out against UW his stars fell on some sites frrom 4 to 2 Why??? Because what these experts who have never even played FB want you to think is that they are in the KNOW. And they are Not.

I trust our coaches are in the Know but as for this kid he needs some refinement. As do all players.  In the end I hope he proves me wrong.

Go Aggies

RE: New commitment (2013 class)

A thread like this in the middle of basketball season gives me great hope for the future of Aggie Football.

In years past the Football threads when pretty dormant during hoops season. This kind of insightful / spirited discussion about a linebacker in early March tells me we are onto something.

I think Coach Martin was a great hire, and the future looks brighter than it has in many a moon for Aggie Football.

Please keep these threads going. Good and bad. Positive and critical. We want to hear it.

I love the news and info on our future players.

Thanks.

I do not think that the Rocha kid will ever set the world on fire. He appears to be limited ny a alck of measureables not like a pro player you talked about

First of all, I think every player that is talented enough to gain a D1 ride in football is a STAR in my eyes and should be applauded. That being said, no player, as I have already stated is perfect, and all have some issues they can try to perfect.

As for measurables, Not sure what you mean, as there are many measurables that are to be honest, immeasurable. So, you nor I have any clue what a players ceiling is and what that player is willing to do to reach it.

I have stated, from the film I watched on Butler, it seems he is a touch slow in the read and react dept. NO Biggie, He will get better and if he does improve on those issues he will be a Very good if not excellent player. My point was more to the fact that as a JUCO player he should be more polished. As he will need to come in and contribute Right now.

As for Mr Rocha, I will bet that in three years if he does what the coaches tell him and has no major injury he will be right on track to set that world on fire.

GO AGGIES!!!

You are wrong to. The Rocha kid is going to be good. He isn't playing OLB in a 4-3. He is playing OLB in a 3-4. Two totally different defenses. He might not be good in a 4-3 but I believe he is perfect fit for the 3-4. I think he will have a nice career at NMSU.

Re: New commitment (2013 class)

In addition to our Aggies, every single one of these schools offered Butler a scholarship. They can't all be wrong correct? Why the silly argument about whether or not this kid is good enough? To the posters that are questioning him, a simple yes or no will do. Do you want this kid on the Aggie roster? Yes or No? I'm curious to see your answers.

Butler isn't coming to NMSU to play inside linebacker. He is coming to play OLB. You do know the difference between a OLB in a 4-3 and a OLB in a 3-4 right?
