Re: UNLV new football stadium
I see future PAC-12 invite for these guys. That stadium is wayyy too nice for the Mountain West. Compare that to that crappy stadiums in the MWC like UNMs, Nevada's and Utah State's.

Re: UNLV new football stadium
After the 2002 season, there was some talk about building a new football stadium on the current site but closer to I-25, but it was found to be less costly to do it in parts then all at ones.
so the upgrades at AMS was planned out in 7 steps, NMSU is at now at step 5.
NMSU has a total 800-Million dollar budget, so $$$ is not an ISSUE for NMSU

Re: UNLV new football stadium
My question is for the millionth time is why isn't this more publicized on the nmstatesports.com web site? This needs to be front on center. Show progress, show future plans, etc. How hard is that to figure out?

Re: UNLV new football stadium
Regarding Las Vegas. I could see more than UNLV teams playing there each year. Maybe UNR, Arizona, and lower level California teams as well as it would be a "neutral" site in-season bowl game like when BB teams go to Hawaii or other exotic locals. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau could sponsor the teams just to draw people for the weekend. In other words, this is meant to be a money maker for the city and UNLV gets the benefits of a nice place to play.
In other words... out of the box thinking.

Re: UNLV new football stadium
As stated in the article "will be used for other purposes". The city of Vegas has vested interest in this project. They don't want to lose the National Rodeo event and other events/conventions that could go somewhere else. I understand the big screen will be bigger than the one at Cowboy Stadium.

In other words... out of the box thinking. I could see a venue like that being used to host the NCAA Tournament Final Four. Especially with that big screen. Most, if not all, the championship sites are dome stadiums now; the only facilities large enough to accommodate the ticket demand.

Those games will always be played at the "old" bowl venues/cities---The Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl (and possibly the Cotton Bowl because of the indoor stadium in Irving). Remember, it was these guys that have been fighting the national championship and they finally gave in with the understanding that the big games would be held in their venues.

Nope, I am talking about Final Four basketball. They are mostly held in indoor football stadiums these days.

RE: UNLV new football stadium
Here is a question, If the NCAA final four and championship was held in Vegas, would Vegas be allowed to bet on those games? My understanding is that anytime games are played in Vegas, Vegas is not allowed to bet on those games. I could be wrong.

I don't think that's right, I bet on Aggie games in the WAC tourney the last couple years! The one rule that I noticed, is you couldn't bet on the Sacramento Kings in the Maloof's casino. and there was another team that is owned by someone that has to do with Caesars Palace and a few others and you couldn't bet on that team in their casinos.
