Walker Tells It Like It Is
From Teddy Feinberg's Blog: "I’m not just going to walk away from this job because I’m just wining (sic)and crying about what’s not being done. I’m not built that way. I came here to try and change this program and that’s what I want to conitinue (sic) to do. There’s been a lot of soul searching and a lot of conversations with people that I respect. My focus right now is to continue and try to accomplish that.” Good stuff at: http://crucessports.blogspot.com/

+1 AggieNT HORSERADISH, WHAT HE SAID. (#123 OUT OF 124, 2012) Wait til spring, see if there is a difference,I predict same old, same old. Work on getting first downs , and making stops on 3rd down then huge amounts of people will jump on your train. With just a little improvement ,URGENCY and competitiveness I WILL BE FIRST ON BOARD.

Re: Walker Tells It Like It Is
I am sure alot of Walkers wants/needs are the same that Samuel, Mumme and many others needed/wanted as well. I am not sure Walker making these issues so public are good for the program. As a "team" player some of those comments would be better off kept behind closed doors IMO......FWIW.

Reading between the lines; "I can't get hired anywhere else because my reputation has taken a HUGE hit because I can't field a competitive defense. So I will continue to blame the offense, fans, Las Cruces, and the Denny's down the street for my woes. Maybe Greg Williams will give me a defensive backs coaching job again when he lands in the Indoor Football League. But until then I better sound like I am trying."

I'll agree with the Walker-haters that he's made mistakes, but in the end he's still a stand up guy and he has a job to do. From the blog: “I have dreams and nights I can’t sleep. And I still have a vision of the administration, the faculty, the student body, the community to kind of help me figure out how to get all those entities together to help change this program. It fires me up to think of, when that day comes, it’ll be a historic moment for New Mexico State football. Is it going to be hard to do? Sure it is. You know how it is. Everybody kind of jumps on when it’s already going. Where we are right now, everyone needs to jump on when it’s not going. And then when it gets going, we can say that we did this as a football program. ... Collectively, I think it’ll be more fun for all of us, if all of us could pull it together to get this thing done.”

Good thing NMSU doesn't take into account your "reading between the lines" washingtonaggie.

RE: Walker Tells It Like It Is
Not "Walker Haters" ,"Walker Frustrated", Many stand up guys have been fired by our Beloved AGGIES. "Sorry, I REALLY, REALLY tried" Doesn't feed the Bulldog nor put Butts in the seats. A Bushel of mistakes have been made the last four years, HOW MANY BUSHELS WILL WE HAVE WHEN IT'S OVER ? WE are in a DESERT OF LOSING. Our current path seems to be taking us further into the nether regions. We need to find relief ,a new well. Do we trust Walkers leadership to find the good well? Can he lead us out? Right now the troops are FRUSTRATED with the direction of the leadership.
AGGIES TRY AND WIN EVERY-----DAY

RE: Walker Tells It Like It Is
How is it that someone who wants a change of a coach is a Walker-hater????
Maybe you should call them an NMSU lover over someone who loves a coach that has had 4 years with all his own players, was blown out most of the last half of the season in each game, did not beat 1 FBS team in his 4th season, claims he is a good defensive guy even said his defense had better players than the offense but continually blames the lack of defense on the offense, does not seem to blitz, seems to try and play containment with slower foot speed talent, had an offense that was very bad. He does not seem to be able to adapt and change to the talent situation of a mid major. The problem with us fans is if you go backwards in the win column we tend to make sweeping generalizations, become arm chair quarterbacks, dissect any post game words, and may even venture opinions on what is wrong and what needs to change.... SORRY I mean we fans do that win or lose, that is the nature of being a fan.
Good guy probably. good coach I doubt, could he grow into a good coach....well he had 4 years and blaming the offense most times the defense failed does not give a person much hope for that, did he force changes on the offense that first season when everyone and his dog knew a change had to be made...no, has he changed in his 4 years....maybe he seemed to point to bowl game but delivered not one Win this last season against an FBS team and lost to some move ups from FCS. I guess that was change.
A good guy Walker probably is, well intentioned I am sure of it, the right coach for NMSU probably not. Could I be wrong.. sure, all I really know is this next season will be the first season where NMSU will start it off where as a fan I see nothing really to look forward to, and being an NMSU football fan that is saying something since it does not take much to get us on board.
So do you love NMSU or Walker? I guess that is what KK is asking.
Put me on the NMSU side.

Legand49 wrote: Good thing NMSU doesn't take into account your "reading between the lines" washingtonaggie. Walker is very adept at not giving the whole story. He spent enough years in the NFL to know how to bluff on injury reports and the like. While he may tell Teddy over at the LCSN that he has no plans on leaving and is in it for the "long-haul" he has been selling his services to a lot of BCS suiters. I am not saying that is a bad thing, and I do agree with KK that he is a "stand-up" guy. He has done wonders bringing in some good scholar atheletes and keeping them out of the news regarding off-field issues. How much of that is having a tighter grip on what gets out? IDK. But regardless, what we witnessed this past season was a step in the wrong direction. And instead of taking responsibility for the product that HE has put on the field, he found a way to blame everyone but HIMSELF. That is the issue I have. I want him to succeed, and if he does I'll gladly eat crow. But until then I want Walker to OWN HIS PROGRAM. I don't want to hear how bad he has it, how his defense suffers because evryone else on the team is so bad. How his coaches leaving kills everything even though those hired to replace are hired by HIM. In other words, I want him to stop with the excuses and just coach.

RE: Walker Tells It Like It Is
Can anyone turn this program around under the current circumstances (lack of money, poor conference, poor football location, inferior facilities, lack of fan support, etc.)? I doubt it very seriously.
At least I like this guy as a person, unlike his predecessor.

RE: Walker Tells It Like It Is
I'm still sick of the "poor football location" excuse. Manhattan Frickin Kansas? Pullman Bleeping Washington? Even Corvallis, Oregon being close to Eugene can field winning teams.
Now we can sell our academic reputation.
I am pulling for the guy as the Aggies showed they could play and win games two seasons ago. He needs an OC who has a clue but there are a lot of coaches like that.
We just keep making stupid decisions time after on coaches that have success. Bradley, Samuels are the two most egregious.
So for FB I am inclined to give a coach a lot of time to try to figure things out. The example is Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech who had a losing record his first five years at the school (talk about a lousy location) but then made it happen. Maybe DWW isn't the man but I want to give him a long time before kicking him to the curb.

Big difference is that the schools/communities you mentioned are all in major conferences and receive big-time BCS money.
Water is a very precious commodity in New Mexico. The late Steve Reynolds, an expert in western water law and the then-State Engineer for New Mexico, told me one time, "Water runs uphill to money."

Yup, and it goes beyond money. All the backwater schools mentioned have local recruiting territories much, much more lucrative than New Mexico. BTW, another Steve Reynolds gem..."Santa Fe was laid out by a blind surveyor and a burro. Best thing you can do is get reasonably close to your destination and abandon your car." Eastern Washington - Western Kansas are local recruiting hot beds? Are you delusional? rojo13 wrote: Yup, and it goes beyond money. All the backwater schools mentioned have local recruiting territories much, much more lucrative than New Mexico.
