Looks Like Boise is Staying in MWC

http://espn.go.com/college-spo...nce-sources-say

Boise State becomes the second school to announce it was joining the Big East only to change its mind and never play in the Big East. TCU also planned to join the Big East but instead paid an exit fee and joined the Big 12.

Besides the possibility of losing San Diego State, sources told ESPN that Houston and SMU, scheduled to join the Big East next season, are among four possible teams the Mountain West may target along with Tulsa and UTEP. The Mountain West will look to add a 12th member by 2014, sources said.

Re: Looks Like Boise is Staying in MWC

This is just speculation on my part but I think the earlier rumors of New Mexico and Colorado State talking with BYU about forming a new conference was their attempt to separate from the lower tier WAC schools. I think this is what they envisioned with BYU being the catalyst...

BYU
Boise State
Colorado State
Wyoming
Air Force
New Mexico
San Diego State
UNLV
Fresno State
SMU
Houston
Rice
Tulsa
UTEP

If this was what UNM and CSU were thinking, I would hope there is traction with this idea because 1. I despise Nevada and would for them to be on the outside looking in and 2. I despise Craig Thompson and I would love for him to lose control of the current MWC and be out of a job.

Airport gang of 5 part 2? The new Mountain west becomes the old WAC, and the better teams in the MWC don't want to be associated with some of the lower WAC schools so they split again? Would be some good drama.

The MWC may be getting a "pig in a poke in Boise St." The rumor is that Chip Kelly to the NFL . The second move is for Chris Peterson to Eugene to replace Kelly. i believe that Boise St will become another UNM without their favorite coach.

RE: Looks Like Boise is Staying in MWC

I doubt that BSU will fall off much if Peterson leaves as BSU has a quality INFASTRUCTURE in place no matter who is at the helm. They have built a PROGRAM that is not depended on any one person ex. they have had several quality Head Coaches and Coordinators move on and not missed a beat. I know that many on this board don't like them but they are the "blueprint" for how to do it right.

RE: Looks Like Boise is Staying in MWC

It would be interesting. Boise State by staying in the MWC will be at a one down to PAC 12 schools like WSU and OSU when it comes to recruiting if they lose their head guy. He would be difficult to replace and their program would suffer. The infrastructure you speak of can topple without the right guy. People make programs not vice versa. If BS loses the head guy look for their program to suffer. Kelly is now being hotly pursued by Philadelphia . Oregon can pay him big bucks but the allure and challenge may be too much for Kelly to resist

FeedLotJoe - looks like you were 100% wrong (just like i said you were) about the Big East being in the position of power.

Big East is still going to survive even without Boise State. They will look to add someone else.

RE: Looks Like Boise is Staying in MWC

The big question that we need answered is this: will the Big East remain intact or dissolve?

If it remains intact, then it'll have to replace Boise State (and potentially San Diego State, if/when they leave); they'll probably look at Army or the various C-USA candidates as replacements.

If the Big East dissolves, then that would be a deathblow for us; C-USA would load up on the various schools, and leave some of the former Big East members to rot. I think, because some of the Big East members fear that they will be left out if the conference is dissolved, that the Big East will remain intact in some form.

If Peterson leaves, take it to the bank...Mike Locksley to BSU.

Doubt it, because of the design of BSU's stadium theres not much room to expand their scoreboard.  So adding a third digit wouldn't be feasible.

They might have to add a third digit to the visitor's score if Locksley was hired...

Chokesley will never become the coach at BSU. Good lord they saw what he did to UNM. He recruited well but could not coach. UNM will be bad this coming year because his recruits are gone and his legacy of losing scared good recruits away. i expect a 2-3 win tea Thm next year. Their o line is gone and they have poor QB's.Translated the aggies have a chance to restore recent normalcy to the series next year

Why do you make stuff up? Do your homework before you post. we lost 1 linemen and return a few off the bench that played key rolls. we return a solid QB and have some great recruits that will compete. We will win at least 6.  Remember we play NMSU next year so it will be at least 1 victory.

Re: Looks Like Boise is Staying in MWC

i agree that it will survive; i mean thats like 12 schools that need a conference they can't all go to the C-USA. but the Big East had a chance to be the best out of the "Group of Five", and If SDSU returns with Boise that distinction looks like it will belong to the MWC, though it will be close in most years. But if they lose some more schools they could end up slipping behind the MAC, which has improved a lot lately and is very stable.

on another note, C-USA really misplayed things by reacting so quickly and adding schools like MTSU, Old Dominion, Charlotte and others. If they hadn't pulled the trigger so quickly then SMU, Houston, Memphis, UCF, and Tulane might have elected to stay in the C-USA and they could have brought back some of their former conference mates like Cincy or USF and maybe killed off the Big East and challenged the MWC as the best of the Group of Five. But instead they will be clearly behind the Mountain West, Big East, and MAC.

I think (just my opinion) when the dust settles you will see:

 - SMU, Houston, Tulane, Memphis, and UCF stay the course and move to the Big East

 - ECU's football invite will become an all-sports invite

 - Navy will never play a game as a member of the Big East

 - Tulsa and Rice will eventually be brought to the Big East to get them to 12

 - San Diego State will stay in the MWC

 - UTEP will end up in the MWC in the next two years

 - NMSU will not play more then one season as an independent

College Football is over rated.

well WAC basketball is not where it's at.... it's just pretty whack. Now MWC and Pac-12 basketball... THAT is where it's at, west of the Mississippi at least.
