UT Arlington

UT Arlington

On Saturday, December 29 NMSU faces a 5-3 Arlington team that has played two games at home and is 1-1, a 63-59 loss to Oklahoma in mid-November (record 6,421 in attendance) and a recent 81-47 win over Houston Baptist (1,259 in attendance).  UTA's most recent game was a 69-44 loss to Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

Statistically UTA and NMSU have some similarities.  Both teams are decent rebounding teams; and both have turnover problems.  UTA shoots the three better than NMSU.

The Mavericks are led by their 6-10, 240 pound senior forward, Jordan Reeves.  He leads the team in scoring (10 ppg) and rebounding (10.8 rpg).   Brandon Edwards, a 6-6, 224 pound junior forward is their other big man who is averaging 8.3 rpg.

This will be UTA's first WAC basketball game.

RE: UT Arlington

There was a small article on the Ft. Worth Star Telegram's web site on tonight's game and I couldn't find anything in the Dallas Morning News. Despite having over 34,000 students, it sucks hind tit in college sports coverage to Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, and even Oklahoma. Oh, and don't forget the Cowboys, Ranger, Mavericks, Stars, and high school football coverage.

Yeah, their level of interest for this school is about 12th in the area, but they'll probably end up in the MWC conference or Conf USA because of the number of TV sets. Ridiculous.

Re: UT Arlington

UT Arlington averaged 2,131 last year in attendance, with a team that won the Southland Conference.  This year they did pull in over 6,000 for Oklahoma, though I would guess most in attendance were Sooner fans.  KK is right - UTA is a very weak afterthought in the DFW sports hierarchy.

They do have a very nice new arena - seats 7,000+ and they are putting a stronger emphasis on BB now, so things are looking up for them.  But they are way down the ladder.

I'm about to leave for tonight's game - I'll try to give a first hand report afterward.

Wow.

Major ugliness.

Re: UT Arlington

Ugliness indeed.  This bunch has no idea how to score...no consistent shooters and no offensive flow. Our seniors cannot lead.  It's going to be a long season Aggie fans.   How disappointing.

Mullings is our only warrior. KK called it early on but few wanted to believe him.

Pray to the Heavens for a miracle in the 2nd half...would love to eat crow, but highly doubtful.

I love this team.

I know it won't change but, 2 positions are going to waste on the court.

Also hate to use cliche's, but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results. If current lineup is not producing, maybe time to mix it up. And I don't mean just on offense, we also cannot get a defensive stop.

Utah State will system us to death and we will be swept by them.
Go NM State!

We are better than how we played tonight. We were just bad tonight. Hopefully we can bounce back on Monday against Louisiana Tech.

We need to be more aggressive on defense. We played to soft tonight.

Disaster and humiliation.  Other than that, it should be a great New Year.

RE: UT Arlington

Mullings is trying but he still needs to expand his offense. Ross-Miller is a sophomore and our only true point guard but his ball secure and decision making needs to improve. Bhullar just needs more conditioning. BUT Watson and Sy are proving to be a hindrance to the offense. Neither can be depended on to bring their A game every night. Menzies will struggle building this team if he can't depend on his seniors.

I have been saying this from the begining of the season...I noticed what MM had was not working. Others think we are a young team...heck with being a young time. Stop riding that and using that as an excuse. A change in the lineup is needed beyound words.

Sy had horrible stats. Unreal from a SR who is supposed to be leading the team.

A lot of work needs to be done. Again, what MM has going on will not produce another WAC Championship without a change in the lineup. I will call it out again.

RE: UT Arlington

My recap is that we played terrible tonight.

And it did not go unnoticed. Menzies was very pissed off on the post game show. I have never heard him that mad in all 6 years he has been here. He said he was embarrassed to represent our University tonight and that this will not stand with him in charge.

Menzies sounded like Reggie Theus after losing to the lobos. He was cussing and saying that this will not stand.

The wake up horn has sounded. We are mad and so is Menzies and so is Weir.

We are in good hands. Menzies will make some changes now. We will not have to witness this again at NMSU. This is the low point. Changes will be made.

Menzies is mild mannered. So for him to be this mad means something. Reggie is a hot head and has a short fuse. Menzies is not going to put up with this. Marvin knows what it means to be an Aggie and represent NMSU. He said this will not stand and I respect him to do so.

I am going to bet big that the Aggies win their next game and cover the spread easily after Menzies lays into the team after tonight's performance. I was very encouraged by the post game show.

We have the horses to control the WAC and win going away. I think we will see a different team come Monday night.

This is the WAKE UP call we have all been waiting for.

The only way I'll be convinced that MM has made the wake up call is if he changes the lineups.

RE: UT Arlington

I think he will try to lay the hammer down on the starter first...most notably Watson, Sy, and Ross-Miller. If they don't respond in the LT game immediately, Menzies will pull them early and go to the bench. If this continues, those three will see less and less playing time. I would like to see Menzies start Mullings, Aronis, Buovac, Dixon, and West. However, Mulling must improve his ball handing. The reason I would start Dixon over Barry is simply because of rebounding. Barry is not boxing out the weak side rebounder right now. And reason I would go with West over Bhullar is because of defense. Bhullar would still get half the playing time at center. Just my opinion.

RE: UT Arlington

47 points and Sy gets 29 minutes and KC gets 22 minutes? I realize that defense is 50% of the game, but if half your starters can't contribute offensively and it's painfully obvious to everyone, yet you don't make a change, then it is stupidity.

RE: UT Arlington

You are 100 percent right Pistol Pete.

Menzies will lay the hammer down.

That much is certain.

And I love it.

This game will be the turning point for our Aggies. We will play better from here on in. We may not win them all, but you will never see the weak effort you saw tonight. That was the low point.

The rest is gravy.

RE: UT Arlington

Just read the Box Score.  eek

http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/...ameId=323640250

UGLY!!

Seniors total 6 points. disbelief Their Seniors (4) schooled us. Their lineup went 6-5, 6-5, 6-6, 6-10, 6-3.  No way should they have outrebounded us. Bhullar only had 6 boards and 33% from free throw line. Dixon was a no show. The supposed fabulous 3 from the bench (Weary, West and Barry) got a chance to play and scored....3 points. Our point guard sucked as he had 0 points, 4 turnovers and only 1 assist. TDR outplayed KCRM AGAIN...but not by much.  LaTech is going to school us.

We need a lineup change if not just to kick start some of the current starters. Bright spots were Mullings with 21 points and 5 boards, Bhullar with 14 points and 5 blocks, Watson with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. I say bench Sy as he's played horrible the last 5 games and insert Barry. I'd also bench KCRM and insert Bouvac since you've burned his redshirt.

Start Bhullar, Mullings, Watson, Barry and Bouvac and go get the best point guard you can get from Canada (for next year). We are sure missing our last point guard from there.
