We're apparently going along with Western Kentucky, if this is to be believed.

I called it!

Actually Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee got invited this afternoon. NMSU not invited. This from ESPN. There is speculation that NMSU would fill a spot in the Sunbelt but sources say that Benson would not do that.

BadFuture.gifIf this is true and it pans out, how long before UTEP scratches and claws its way out?

That's old news. The latest twitter sources say that Western Kentucky and New Mexico State get to go to C-USA.

Although we don't really know WHY we got into C-USA, I'd imagine that's due to our rival ties to that league (in Texas and in Louisiana). I can't think of any other reason why we got in (if in fact we did).

Let not irrational exuberance overcome us...despite the tweets, there is absolutely no confirmation from a credible source that NMSU has a CUSA invitation.

If you were following the twitter was scuttlebutt this morning. Only a few tweeted this afternoon. They tweeted 2 teams and they were wrong. The final is MTSU and FAU. Sit and wait.

Here are some more tweets on what is happening. Boston is denying any talk with CUSA. There may be a big move coming in all the realignment.

Re: NMSU to Conference USA

There might be an upcoming move in realignment but keep in mind the Big East only needs to fill one slot to get up to 14 football members. If they add from C-USA again the next addition by C-USA might a Western Kentucky "OR" New Mexico State. We rally need C-USA to lose two members with the next realignment to help our chances.

HOWEVER, if the Big East loses Connecticut and/or Cincinnati to the ACC, this could cause the Big East basketball schools to vote to disband the conference, before the incoming football schools join, to form an eastern based basketball-only conference instead of this Frankenstein football conference. In which case mayhem could breakout as Boise State and San Diego State come crawling back the MWC and UCF, SMU, Houston, Memphis, Tulane, and ECU race back to C-USA looking for a home. At a glance, none of this really helps NMSU.

From the pure rumor mill

BYU and Boise State to Big12

UTEP and Tulsa to MWC

NMSU and WKU to CUSA

I have no insight, just passing a rumor that is circulating.

Just emails from some friends that work in conferences not mentioned on what they are hearing.  They are old soccer buds who have been hit in the head one to many times so please take it a pure rumor or speculation.  They pass things along that affect NMSU to me.

No way Boise into Big 12 their academics are far too low for B12 prez's to accept, BYU yes plus the Big 12 may not take others since they won't like splitting a big pie for a new member like Boise who brings little to B12 TV footprint

Re: NMSU to Conference USA

The problem with BYU, is that they won't play on Sundays.  All sports would have to adapt to BYU's schedule.  That was one of the big reasons that they weren't invited to the Pac 12 with Utah.   Boise State University WAS a junior college just a short time ago.  In fact, BSU is rated #616 of 650 colleges by Forbes magazine.  The Big 12 would have to be desperate to take them.

Re: NMSU to Conference USA

I would not get our hopes up at NMSU for ANY conference.

The quicksand is fast moving and we don't have much of a branch to grab onto.

NMSU is at the bottom of the barrel for Conferences to want us.

We may get an invite or we may not. Neither would surprise me.

We just need to keep working and doing the right things and something good will happen.

Dr. Boston is no dummy. He has contacts around the nation and our best interest at heart.

We will be fine.

It just may not happen in 2012 or 2013.

We must be patient. We did not win the Powerball.

We must work for our money.

I hope this is true too.  If it is though, Idaho will be crushed like an empty beer can, despair is higher on their board right now for sure.  They might have won the game but you won the war. biggrin
