Attendance

Coach Walker says with no fans in Aggie Memorial Stadium for the game vs. SJSU, there was no energy and the team showed it.

UTEP also having problems.

RE: Attendance

Well, the fans showed up for as many games as they could, now looking at an abysmal record and season, it's hard to blame anyone for not showing up. I obviously was at the game, stayed until the very end.

Crummy team on a crummy day......makes it tough for fans to show up.  Thank you Keegsta for keeping the faith.

RE: Attendance

I thought that UTEP being in the big time C-USA was going to make them great?  The big following that Central Florida has in west Texas should have brought in at least 20 - 30 fans.  Just wait until Old Dominion plays in El Paso.  Big time!

These new conferences are just stupid.

Re: Attendance

Really?  Sounds like another excuse to me.  I was there until the very end as well.

This is football, and if you can't get up to compete at this level, regardless of the crowd, then something is really wrong.

Operative word "compete"!

I'm kinda curious what the excuse was for no energy or intensity when we had 25,000 for the loob game.  What was the excuse then...I can't remember? Lack of fans is not an excuse...its the result!!

Re: Attendance

Speaking of attendance what was the attendance anyway? Aggievision definitely avoided any large scale crowd shots so it must have been bad.

RE: Attendance

Aggies vs Spartans attendance was a big joke. It was reported as 9100 and at no time was their more than 2000 there. In previous years you could generally count on the reported amount to be a max of 4000 more than who was there due to season ticket holders not showing up but being counted anyway. There must be a new formula devised by Macy et al.

Re: Attendance

I have refrained from posting following the trouncing SJSU put on our Aggies, but now that I have had a few days.......

It was a hard game to watch, and even harder to finish.  My wife left the room at halftime.  My son, who is still contemplating being a 3rd generation Aggie, left mid-way through the 3rd quarter.  I nearly turned the TV off several times but stuck it out.  It was the worst game I have seen since the Mike Knoll era.  I don't see this team winning another game this year.  And I can see us not winning any FBS games next year either.  Better hope the FCS team comes to town early in the season or we could be threatening a 20+ game losing streak.  The 50 or so fans that were on the east side should be commended for sticking it out.  That was some sorry football.  That is what happens coach, you put a sorry product on the field ain't nobody gonna watch it!  No more excuses!

I watched as Walker shook hands with Coach Mac.  Most of the time there is some pleasantries exchanged and then on to the locker rooms.  You could tell though that Coach Walker was whinning and crying and that was about as long of a conversation after a game I have ever seen two opposing coaches have.  Hopefully he was feeling Coach Mac out and asking if he thought he would have some openings after the season.  When I read the article from the Sun News after the game Walker had the excuse machine all fired up.  Blame the fans, the coaching staff, hell he even threw his players under the bus (now I know he has lost this team).  Man up Coach!  This is your team!  The reason no fans were there is because they are tired of losing!  Wait...not tired of losing, tired of watching a non-competitive product.  Personally, I don't think we were all that good last year either.  Our defense sucked and we couldn't out score anyone.  But we had some compelling players you wanted to watch.  I tuned every week to see if Thor was going to keep getting up.  He was as tough as nails!  We tuned in every week to see an uber-talented Kenny Turner.  Other than that we weren't that good.  Those two made Coach Martin look good IMO.  Nothing more.  This season there are no personalities on this team worth watching.  The teams best QB languishes away, and the teams most exciting runningback carries the ball maybe a dozen times a game.  You are a defensive guru and yet there has been NO improvement in defensive play since your arrival.  But that's OK because you just blame the offense, even though your defense should be good enough to win games 10-7 or 14-10.  You are a defensive coach, win a game with the defense for a change.

For those that say we can't afford to get rid of Walker.  Can we afford to keep him?  I watch the games and it's like he spends all his time waiting for the light on the camera facing him to come on so that when it does he can get that sour look and shake his head in disbelief.  No fire, no emotion, no coaching.  This is not working.  It has to change.

Careful.  Expressing opinions like this one will get you ostriacized galore by some.  NMSU is in sorry shape right now and the reality is there is no clear cut anwser to the problems.  Getting rid of Walker or keeping him could end up not solving any problems.  I lean toward getting rid of him but who knows if that is really what NMSU needs right now.  I have said perhaps hiring a guy like the one who turned it around at NM Highlands for a little over $100,000.00 and see what he can do while we are in no conference no man's land and see what happens.  Walker has lost the team, his assistants's and the fan base support.  He is going to have probably no success recruiting anyone that can actually make a difference for next season.  I think it's wishful thinking that Walker is going to be successful being independent next year or the year after that.  Our only possible victory next year is Abeline Christian who are transitioning from Div. II to FCS (Div. 1-AA) and I don't even think that game is a guarantee.  I also feel like investing money in NMSU's athletic program is like buying stock in Enron right now as long as the one's that are in charge stay there.  Very frustrating to be an Aggie fan right now.  Ill be there at the Abeline  Christian game because that is the only game I feel we have a chance.  After that, all losses, especially if Manley is still QB.

As a western school, I think we need some level of football so that we can join a conference at the D-1 level. Whether this means FCS or FBS for us, nobody knows.

We are not a west coast school (Big West), and we are not a private school in the west (West Coast). Therefore, if we are to remain viable athletically, we need football. Without it, I don't see how any division 1 conference could possibly justify accepting us.
