And with the 11th overall pick, the Buffalo Bills select....

Aaron Maybin.

That's what I said in the Scout.com intersite mock draft, which will be published soon. Maybin had an exceptional pro day at PSU, breaking the 4.6 barrier. More importantly, he has packed on 25 more pounds since January. Really.

The Bills desperately need a pass rusher this April. Luckily, there are a ton out there. Brian Orakpo, Everette Brown, Maybin and Tyson Jackson would all be solid additions.

For now, it's Maybin. Be sure to check out the story on the BFR front on Maybin.

Any thoughts?

Solid pick.  I still hope Orakpo is there at the 11 spot.  Maleuga would be a nice selection as well.  I see him as the next Troy Polamalu/Ed Reed.

If we don't sign a starting caliber LB in free agency I would say their is a chance we go after Cushing or Rey Maualuga.

The guys I have on our radar for the 11th pick are, in no particular order, Pettigrew, B.J. Raji, Cushing, Maualuga and any of the half dozen talented DE prospects their seem to be in this draft.

Well with the IMD Draft starting on Saturday, this would be a good place for feedback.

I have received offers to go up as high as #3 in the draft. Of course this would cost us since we are moving up. Are there any guys you all are really passionate about being a Bill? If there was a possibility of us snagging a top 5 talent? I know very little about this crop of draft guys to be honest with you. I plan on doing some last minute read ups in the morning since I have tomorrow off.

If we are to stay at 11, is everyone in the same coop for Brian Cushing? Or should we go for the need at DE first and take Everette Brown?

IF we stay at 11, and lets say that Orakpo, and Brown are off the board. Remember this, Cuhsing has played DE before. I say stay where we are and if those 2 main guys are off the board, I say take Cushing. A guy like Cushing who we can use as a DE and LB is huge. I have read where we are waiting on Cato June to finish up his visits.  I still think we are a big player for him still.  If we sign June, I still think we pick Cushing because we can put him down on the Line.  He said in an interview that he can play anywhere in the Front 7.  I like that in a player where he can say that he can and has played in the front 7.  He also, said in that interview that he has played as a 3-4 LB, 4-3 SAM and WILL LB spots, as well as 3-4 DE and 4-3 DE.  You can find that interview on the Bills team site. If one of the 2 main guys are there I say take one of the two. I think moving up would take picks away from us unless it is a 1st Round swap of pick or picks only. If the offers are for us to move up and give picks away I sat no. If it is for 1st Round pick only, I would consider it and then take Brown hands down then. But, IMO I say stay where we are at and let the picks fall as they come to us. I'm not very big on Maybin at all. I watched him play in the Big 10 and to me he is a lot like Gholston with the Jets. Had a great year the year he declared and now he is a bust. I feel the same way with Maybin. I say stay away from him IMO.

Bills have Maybin as 4.65 to 4.7 in 40
By Chris Brown - Posted April 15th, 2009
There’s been a wide disparity of 40 times on Penn State OLB/DE Aaron Maybin this offseason after his well publicized pro day, with some reports of 4.53 times and such. The Bills, like every other team have their times on him.

Bills VP of College Scouting Tom Modrak has him in the mid 4.6s on his watch.

“He’s a 4.65 or 4.7 guy,” said Modrak. ”That’s him basically. He may run faster on some days, but that’s true on every day. He runs fast, he covers the field. His play speed is very good. It may be even more of an issue. You’d like to have the support of the clock, but his play speed is real good.”

Oftentimes scouts rely more on a prospect’s playing speed than timed speed, and Maybin made his share of plays despite a 40 time that doesn’t blow anyone away for someone that’s supposed to be an elite pass rusher. With a thin college resume of production and lacking an elite measurable it’ll be interesting to see how teams value him.

from the team site....
