As for the breakdown in the ''Supercommittee'' talks, no one ever seriously expected them to succeed, and the automatic cuts don't kick in until 2013, before which the Congress would simply undo the process before any draconian DOD cuts went into effect.
     I haven't heard anyone refer to the ''industrial-military complex'' since Ike. It's an odious term, preferred only by left-wingers.
     As for manned aircraft being replaced by drones, forget it. The drones too often miss their targets causing political fallout amongst our purported friends. Also, the technology isn't particularly difficult and some of our most notorious enemies (like iran) may have drones soon too. There will never be any equivalence however between our pilots and anyone else's. We have a huge qualitative edge.
    You say the Chinese MAY build A carrier. No, they're building a whole fleet and we'll need to match theirs to keep them from dominating the entire Asian coast.
