7-6 at the half. Their choke artist kicker looks even worse than last year.

Re: navy 7 ohio st 3

Navy is looking very impressive, except for the two big plays they have given up (one fumble returned for a TD and another bomb pass for TD).  It just reiterates the absolute necessity of ball control and discipline on both side of the ball.  Piling onto what everyone else has said: I really hope Coach Monken and his staff have solved the turnover problem.  I also hope Navy can pull out this big win...it will make our victory in December that much sweeter.  biggrin

OSU is pulling away now. Navy played them tough for three quarters but the mistakes killed them. I was pulling for them, but it's a bit of a relief since we probably could have written off the CiC or beating Navy right here and right now if they topped The Ohio State University.

YGTBSM!!!

You have the nerve to question Nick Sloan's guts when he and his teammates had to play Ohio State twice because the Army admin backed out of the series because they were afraid their fragile Black Knights couldn't handle the physical or psychological trauma of playing the Buckeyes.

New motto for the Army:  "there's a difficult mission--see if Navy will lend us their football players".

Go away.  Your team just played great against one of the best teams in the nation and you came to an Army message board to call out one poster you think said something offensive and then degraded a team who your team has destroyed for 12 straight years.

You are extremely classless.  Go praise your team who you should be proud of instead of trashing a bunch of young men who give it all not only on the football field but for their country just like their brothers at Navy.

Go away.

Just returning fire--calling someone a choke artist is pretty lame when your team backed out of playing our opponent due to fear of injuries.  Check the record, Kevin Anderson said it, not me.

Calling out players is classless.   I think the decision not to play Ohio State reflects upon the former Army admin rather than the team.  It was the Admin who lacked faith in the Army team, not me.

Enjoy  your game next weekend.

Re: navy 7 ohio st 3

Yes, I do. If you want to point fingers at anyone, look to the clock management at the end of the first half. That whole sequence was disjointed.

I think that the Navy kicker is erratic and maybe not the greatest in the world. If I had to guess, his rhythm was thrown off by the timing of the time out and not any "choking."

What any of this has to do with Kevin Anderson or this year's CIC is beyond me.

Great game by Navy with a disappointing result. Good luck until December 13th.

I'm not questioning his guts or his integrity or his desire to win. I'm sure he's an admirable young man. He's just not very good in pressure situations. Sometimes not even in routine situations. This is a matter of objective fact. I've called Army kickers choke artists in the past, as well. If you don't do your job properly and cost your team a game then you shouldn't be immune to criticism. Criticizing the way someone plays is not tantamount to a personal attack on their character. I'm sorry if you're incapable of making that distinction. God forbid somebody get a little heat for failing at their one job.

I also apologize for commenting on the special teams woes of one of Army's opponents - of THE opponent - on our own board. Very sorry to offend your sensibilities while you were lurking on a board that conspicuously is not the Navy one. Thanks for blowing one sentence out of proportion and bashing our entire program in response, though, it was very classy of you. Especially after I mentioned that I was pulling for Navy and applauded them for putting up a good fight against one of the best teams in the country. I guess you were too busy firing off your raging non-sequitur response to take note of that one.

Re: navy 7 ohio st 3

Sloan was 1 for 2 in FGs.  He was 11 of 14 last year but missed 4 PATs

If you merely stated that Navy continues to have problems in the kicking department, no argument would have ensued.  Instead you chose to inject a motive for the miss.

Just seemed rich for a fan of a team who paid OSU not to play them because their leadership wussed out.

Good luck next week.  Looking forward to the December game.

Navy played a great game against a Top 10 Team.

If Navy play us like they played against Ohio State yesterday, they will beat us by 40 points.

Period.

We have no QB with the ability of Keenan Reynolds.

I mean NOBODY.

He IS the Navy team.

Navy can play with Ohio State.

Please don't tell me Army could play against Ohio State. Our past performances do not qualify us playing that factory.

Hell, we could not play with Stoney Brook that year so why the hell the thought came up to schedule OSU in the first place?

This game proved to me that Navy will have no trouble beating us in December.

With our QB problem, we wouldn't have been a threat to any Top tiered team. Just compare Santiago to Reynolds.

Navy had a chance to win.

Personally, I don't think we would have scored playing OSU.

My take.

Re: navy 7 ohio st 3

I certainly have no issue if you want to rip on the previous regime here. I definitely would have loved to play against Ohio State, and it's a pity our fans were denied that. I will point out that we're playing Stanford in back-to-back seasons (and were just as competitive against them last year as you guys were against Ohio State).

I hope Navy has a good season and I hope for your sake that Sloan gets his issues worked out. Not that I'd mind if his demons return in December, of course.

Kind of like Steelman, eh?

Re: navy 7 ohio st 3

If you two guys put on gloves, not sure who I'd root for.

GBK, I think most of us define choking as a player who under performs in pressure situations. A kicker who misses random routine kicks would not be characterized that way. He missed a big extra point last year in OT versus Toledo. Sloan's missed field goals, from a cursory look, have not been the difference between wins or losses for Navy over his career (I said cursory). Because of his missed kick against Toledo, every missed kick is the result of choking? He made a kick to send that game into overtime. That's just ignorant and unfair.

I'm not going to bother getting into Steelman with you, Gibson. Go back to your board and try to figure out how you're going to beat Temple.

Steel man came through in the clutch far more often than not. Sadly the most enduring memory of his career was that one fumble, which arguably wasn't even his fault. It's also apples and oranges comparing QBs with kickers. A QB is in on every offensive play and has to wear many hats. A kicker has one duty. But whatever. If coming over here and rubbing salt in old wounds helps you cope with letting a huge upset get away then you're welcome for the catharsis.

Reminds me of Buchianeri. He was great for Army.
