A Michie adult beverage?

A Michie adult beverage?

I, for one, wouldn't mind a cold beer in Michie...more money, possibly more fannies in the seats.

I believe we already have some type of beer sales setup in Black Knight Alley.

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

As much as I enjoy adult beverages myself, I hate dunk people, and I especially hate drunk people at sporting events.  One of my favorite aspects of going to games at West Point is the fact that I never have to worry about some drunken idiot spilling a beer on me or my friends and family.

If people want to pregame, that's their business.  But I see no reason to bring it inside Michie.

Black Knights Alley does sell beer and wine and you can access it without a ticket or entering the stadium. I'm perfectly fine with keeping that outside the actual seating area or on the concourse.  Plenty of time pre or post game to party if you need to. Don't make Michie  like
Giants stadium.

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

ABSOLUTELY NO LIQUOR OR BEER SALES IN A COLLEGE FOOTBALL STADIUM.

Just go to a NY GIANT or JET game in Met Life Stadium to see the reasons why.

Idiots cursing the whole game and fights all over the place. No parent would take their child to a game there anymore as the place reeks with alcohol with post game fights in the parking lot.

Bad environment any more as the crowd seems to get uglier with every passing year. I once saw a twenty something girl almost go over the top deck in old Giant Stadium who was so drunk she couldn't walk straight.

Lets keep the college crowed safe and still provide a great Saturday afternoon atmosphere.

If you want to drink heavily and get drunk, go to your local bar and make a fool of yourself in your own home town. Don't make it ugly for any one watching a football game in a public stadium.

It is a far cry from the more genteel crowd in suit and tie on a Sunday afternoon in the old YS.  I'm sure the lack of tail gate facilities under the IRT El contributed to that somewhat.

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

I find it hilarious that this board thinks Michie would turn into MetLife Stadium if they started selling beer during games.  What makes you think the out-of-control, drunk crowd would suddenly start showing up at Michie?  As it is now, you can come in and out of the stadium as many times as you want, so if drunken stupor is what you seek, what's stopping you now?

I go to all kinds of sporting events where alcohol is served with minimal issue or incidents.  The extra money would be pretty nice...pretty funny that the same crowd complaining about ticket and parking prices is dead-set against alcohol sales.  I'd say we risk being left behind in college football, but I fear that maybe we've already been.  With no conference alignment, no dominant/entertaining team (a mid-level, no name bowl is a dream season), a relatively small alumni base (albeit a strong one), what does Michie look like on a fall Saturday in 2030?

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

Many years ago you could bring your own beverages into the stadium. When I was young my orthopedic surgeon and the local DA brought it in in peanut butter jars, but they also wore suits to the games ...IN 1980 the team got so bad and the drinking so bad that Gen Goodpaster banned all drinking in the stadium ...I swore I would not go to another game.... 44 years later I am still there best decision ever made and I like a beverage RBMARMY

Bring on the Beer!

Look I don't even drink and I don't disagree with those that say that Giants Stadium and Pro Fans in general are a nasty bunch.

HOWEVER, we could stand to loosen Michie up just a tad and have a little more attitude. Michie Stadium isn't a play park for kids or a library to read a book in.  It's an ARENA that is there to view the spectacle of Warriors doing battle.  It shouldn't be for the meek or lighthearted.

Not that I'm saying I want fights and drunks in the stands.  I'm just saying that a little more intensity from the crowd would go a long way.  Even when we've played well and won you see people sitting down and many times don't stand up and cheer even for big plays.

I've been to lots of College Campuses and our crowd, which to be fair hasn't had much to cheer for in a long time, is timid at best.

Maybe we should impose a one beer minimum for anyone over 21 to enter and then not serve upon entering. Maybe that would loosen it up a little!

BTW, they used to have beer and alcohol in the Supe's Loge so don't think it doesn't exist in Michie.  In fact at every major college in America Beer, Wine, and Alcohol is being served in the boxes and suites behind the glass.  Nothing new there but the elites have privileges that those sitting on the bleachers can't imagine.  Of course they pay for it too.

Ok, can't wait till Buffalo then mundane topics like this tend to disappear!  HA!!

Beat 'em!!

Army's performance on the field . . .

has generated a powerful thirst in the past.  Thank God I've been able to anesthetize myself at Philly's Lincoln Field.

I commented years ago how passive our crowds are But if you stand up and cheer you are asked to sit down because you are blocking someone else. Yes beverages are still served in the Supes box and Kimsey but I am there to watch the game

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

I'm on the no side of this issue. NMCMS is alcohol-free inside and one of the nice things about Navy games is you never have to worry about drunks ruining the game. I've never understood why folks HAVE to drink at a game to enjoy it. At last year's A-N game the two guys sitting in front of me had SEVEN beers apiece........I started counting because they spent the whole game getting up to go buy another one. Why anyone would want a cold brew when it's alternately snowing, sleeting and freezing raining is beyond me. A few years back at a Navy-ND game at Giants stadium my wife was physically thrown out of the hot chocolate line by a drunk and a guy behind us had to be carried out of the stadium in a Stokes litter because he was passed out and puking. Who needs that ? As for the Supe's box (and the others) I don't think there are a lot of knee-walking,  commode-hugging drunks there and regardless they're not affecting the game experience for us peons. Just sayin.'

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

So you think that by selling beer inside Michie, this type of fan would suddenly start showing up?  The crowd we have now is predominantly kids, elderly, faculty, and alums...and they sit there in relative silence, watching us fumble.  Not to mention, big tailgating lots are right outside the Michie gates and you can go in and out 1000 times...so you could easily get blasted and puke all over everyone if that is your intent. Do any of you go to other sporting events (besides Giants Stadium apparently) where alcohol is served?  I go to 3-4 NFL games per year, lots of Red Sox, Orioles, and Padre games (business cities), and I am a Bruins seasonticket -holder...and rarely do I see what you describe above.  These places are selling beer for $8+ a cup...that's healthy revenue stream for a sports program.

Personally, I'll take 100 drunks acting like idiots in a sold out Michie with a winning team.

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

Imagine all the money WP could have raised by selling alcohol inside Michie during the Todd Berry era... The National Debt could have been paid off with that alone!   biggrin

...

My vote would be for no alcohol sales inside any college football stadium.

Re: A Michie adult beverage?

I went to at NFL game at Giants stadium long ago and the drunks ruined it, I felt unsafe much less a kid or woman. I never went back.

While the beer may be cheap to buy and sell for a lot, it would require Army to have a lot of ushers and security like they have at pro events.

As it is now if I bring a friends's kid and they get separated I don't worry much. When the 100 drunks come in, I will leave, for good.

Big tailgaiting lots are not "right outside" unless you donate a ton of $.

Speaking of that era, I experienced some nasty drunks from Conf USA on more than one occasion.
