Army beats HC 80-66

Same plebes as starting 5.

EE off the bench for 23 points including 11-11 from the free throw line.

This line-up will continue until we lose a game.

Re: Army beats HC 80-66

Solid basketball. Ellis superb. Then the frosh Wilson, Cox, Toomey, and Toth. Liked Springer's toughness under the glass.  The announcers at HC are first class, fair, no hot dogging.  Same can be said of the Colgate announcers. Bucknell?--sorry Bison--they are the worst. Now we rap up the first half of league play against Lehigh. Can't honestly expect a win, but we historically play well against them for some reason. The loss that should have been a win against Colgate was really costly. I like the way Spiker weaves in guys like Kinkade, Gramling (sp?), Lennox. I don't know why but we play pretty well on the road.

Great win! Reference playing well on the road, first I'd ask what the team's travel schedule looks like. If they traveled up to Mass yesterday afternoon/evening and spent the night, I'd say that's a big benefit for a team starting five plebes. If they did the boomerang, my answer may not hold as much water.

One thing's for certain though; we can't say that we have any significant home court advantage in Christl. It's a beautiful facility, there's no doubt about it, but it's so damn quiet you could hear a pin drop in there some nights.

Beat 'em!

Great win. I hope the team can finish around .500 or better in conference when all is done.

I'm sure I've posted this before, but BSon told me it's easier to get fired up for a weekday game on the road that it is at home, because you have more demands on you when you're at WP the day of the game.  I think it was more of a mental/emotional issue than physical.  And it doesn't help to play the game in front of 50 people; a large, hostile crowd on the road can get the blood pumping.

To go into an opponent's gym and go 17-17 from the line, getting the exact same number of attempts as the home team is huge.  Wilson appears to be playing lights out, and Cox hasn't turned the ball over the last 3 games.  When it really matters, the freshmen are delivering.  Hopefully Ellis' seasonal bump in the road is behind him, and we get Herbeck back soon.

Said this before too:  Bison, gotta tell ya, if there's a more annoying homer than Bucknell's play-by-play guy, I'd like to know who he is.  wink

Nice win for you guys.   Holy Cross had about 500 people in attendance - mostly old folks - so it wasn't the "large, hostile crowd" that did it.    Their following has declined markedly since the strong teams of the Ralph Willard era.

As for the Bucknell announcer, no question he is a big homer.   Some like it, some don't.    To clarify, however, the Bucknell color man is not a homer and has a lot of insightful comments.   He is as well-qualified as anyone for that role - four year college starter at point guard,   4 years as D2 assistant coach, 11 years as D1 assistant, 5 years as a college head coach, etc.    So at least one announcer is providing some good insights - which is one more than many of the PL broadcasting teams.

Great win. Spiker played 13 guys! Make that 14 once Herbeck gets back, which sounds like it may be for the Bucknell game.

The beautiful New England weather probably didn't help either. I thought about making the 1.5 hour drive from my house to Worcester, but the heavy rain and high winds changed my mind.

Bottom line, great win and we'll take it!

Beat 'em!

Mostly old folks?  Undoubtedly much farting and kvetching about ailments, and complaints about Army being coached by a high school kid.  So it was hostile in its own special way.

The weather kept me from making a drive of a similar distance.

Expect that this adventure is going to be difficult.
It is going to be hard.
And expect to win.
