Colgate 93 Army 90 in OT

Colgate 93 Army 90 in OT

Burnatowski...did just that...he burned it up with 35pts.  A 6'7" Canadian transfer from Maine.

Tough FT shooting, again for Army.

Colgate W-L stat is deceptive.  They have played a few pretty challenging teams this season.  (Syracuse, Marquette, Illinois)

Need some leadership, and need Herbeck back on the court.

Army in last place again. Get ready for Boo to pull the plug on Spiker after the season. Coach K will get his way and Spatola will be the next head coach. Anyone else think its odd that Spatola called the Army-Navy game for CBS Sports Network; what other current assistant coach in d1 basketball has time (or head coach allows them) to do broadcasting on the side. Nice 27 point loss by the Dukies last night to Miami. Maybe the assistant coaches should have been preparing for the Hurricanes instead of broadcasting Army games.

Spatola is no longer on the staff at Duke and has called all the PL games for the CBS Sports Network. He called the Lehigh-Bucknell game last night, even though Duke had a game vs. Miami.

Spatola is a special assistant to Duke AD Kevin White and still runs the Duke basketball camps. He is also on the Pac-12 network calling games.

As much as I can't stand the way Spiker manages games (none more than last night), I'm sure he's not going anywhere on the short term.

Yes, we got "burnatowskied".

My two favorite sports teams, the Cleveland Browns and Army men's basketball - nobody does this more...

On the Other Hand

The story of the game was red hot shooting by Colgate, especially in the second half, and a downer of a game by Ellis who missed a really crucial free throw. Wilson and Toth looked very tough. Big men looked good, especially Ferguson who has tremendous mobility.

The tempo of the game worked against us. We pushed the all up court all night long, and on d, we left B'sky wide open and paid for it dearly.

Looks like we'll have to content ourselves with the thought that on any given night, we could win, even against the top dogs

Some really nice lines by the freshmen, especially Wilson and Ferguson.  Note that Cox had 8 assists and 0 t/os - very nice.  The team stats point to a very even, entertaining game. "A downer of a game" strikes me as kind: if Ellis plays to even half of his all-PL ability, easy win.

Next 3 games: American and Lehigh on the road, Holy Cross at home.  Very possibly could be 2-5 or worse at the turn, a virtual lock for a lower division PL finish, another sub .500 season.

Our journey's far from over, as the President would like to say.
