Army loses to Navy...59-50

This was a really disappointing game to watch. I didn't keep count, but I'd be shocked if we didn't miss more than a dozen open shots, many of them relatively simple layups. The number of times we left them wide open for three pointers also left me very puzzled. Definitely not their best game of the year (on national TV).

Beat 'em!

When was the last time we played well and convincingly won on national TV in BB or football?
We obviously can't beat Navy at all when the lights are turned on and people watch Army play in anything.

So, what the hell is new? noidea

C'mon '94, tell us how you really feel.  I just looked at the final box score: eau de repugnance.  2-20 from the arc, 31% shooting overall.  4 assists to 12 turnovers: how do you only get 4 team assists?  You should get 7 or 8 by accident.  Our leading rebounder was the point guard.  Only 2 team steals: matador defense obviously - ole!  To lose to a bad Navy team at home...

I've asked the Vice President to look into what's going on with Army basketball...

Thanks for asking Rab.  The basketball team in 2010 put the hammer down on the Middies on national TV, with BulldogSon having one of the best games of his career. I still have the game on my DVR, and when I'm feeling small and sad I put on some baggy sweats, grab a juice box, and watch it all over again, particularly relishing that jumper from the foul line, a shot he told me Jim Crews would never let him take.

Good for BullDog Son but why do we have to reach into the "archives" to get a shiny moment against Navy? How about creating some new ones to create a bit of interest for newer potential fans who can be proud of the BB AND football afficiandos that would root for Army teams?

The last time we beat Navy in 2001 IN FOOTBALL, did we actually have color by then or waS IT LIKE 1940 AGAIN WITH GRAINEY BLACK AND WHITE FOOTAGE?

GEEZ. frown

I mean how many times can you watch Glenn Davis scoring from 80 yards out on the black and white stuff to get a REAL Army Football thrill?

Seen that, watched that, a thousand times over the past 65 years. I would like to see some present day modern color stuff these days before I depart this earthly valley of tears. ohlord noidea

Bison...who was it who said the following about Spiker not having an opportunity to recruit and give him a chance?....

I guess the Navy Coach, who is in his second year, did not get the memo.  I saw a more controlled Navy team.  An equally, or even younger team, with very limited time to recruit.  Now that the drama of the Navy coach during his 1st year is over, there is likely to be a a steady improvement in the program.

No. At best, he has had two years. Considering MAPS, really only one year. He was hired in October 2009 - which was way too late to recruit any quality seniors (H.S. Class of 2010). So he has had a legitimate chance to recruit the H.S. Classes of 2011 and 2012. Much of the latter class would likely have gone to MAPS however. The guys he recruited in his first true opportunity - the H.S. class of 2011 - include Toth, Cox, K.Wilson, Ferguson, and Toomey, plus Lenox.

Herbeck on the court does make others open, as he is a pretty significant threat from the field.
PL is right around the corner.
With the Navy coach in his second year, it may be a tougher game series for Army this year.

Very humorous VP reference.

Isn't the Navy coach new with less really less than 2 years recruiting?  I saw a more controlled Navy team.  Makes a huge difference without Herbeck.

Way too many substitutions for Army!  (again.)

I was also surprised by the low FT% shooting.

Re: Army-Navy bball live Sunday, Noon on CBSSN.

I'm not sure what cat fight you two have going on, but watching the game, it was exhausting watching Spiker's pace of substitution with no real point guard during most of the game. Navy stinks but the better team than Army today...in addition to Army's missing open threes and easy baskets, there was little intensity on defense.

The Navy coach is a hack, in my opinion, but not sure of the rationale of the Army frenetic lineup changes.

I thought so too until I looked at the box score and saw Navy was even worse from the  line.

2 for 20 from 3 point line doesn't get it done, especially when it's the focus of the offense.

1.  Navy this year is clearly worse than Army, based on the entire season, so I'm not sure what your point is.    Yes, I know this loss is painful - but it certainly doesn't make Navy a better team.  About the only takeaway is that Army hit 2-23 on threes while Navy hit 11-23 on threes.   With that disparity, a team is almost always going to lose.   Prior to this game, the two teams were basically hitting the same pct on threes, btw, except that Army had done it against a more difficult schedule.

2.   Nothing about this game changes the fact that Spiker has only had two recruiting classes, not four.

The concept of being the better team but still losing is part of the politically correct mentality of today. I like the old way of determining who was better by looking at the final score.

No cat fight going on, just saying the number of years coaches have their own recruits is very over-rated. (or least should be, and many times used as an excuse.) Yea I know...everyone would love to have a Muscala...but Army doesn't. (No offense to our players at all on that comment, as we have some very promising talent on the team.) With our style of play, having 3 NBA hopefuls on the team, may not yield a PL conference win.

Even the stands are exhausted by the number of substituions.

mnagy:  Agreed.  I thought the best team, on the day two teams play, is the team that wins.

I would like to see the NCAA D1 statistics on average number of game substituions.  I would be willing to bet we are #1 in that stat.

As for the Navy coach, he may be better than what they have had in the past 10 years.

He had two winning seasons out of eight at PSU, with a 41-95 conference record, 3-26 last year at Navy. I think Billy Lange is a much better coach with the record to back it up.
