Army & Navy should be driving forces in a new conference
Before Christmas I suggested A&N form a new conference. Here is what I suggested with some additional thoughts & assessment of likelihood (in Red) of various teams willingness to move.
The best alternative would be ARMY & Navy being the driving forces in/of a new conference. Maybe this conference could include the likes of (just dreaming here - no logic except trying to bring in teams & their rival & having a footprint along the East Coast & South East): Likelihood of willingness to change conference Duke 0 (no desire) UConn 10 (highest desire) UVa 3 Boston College 7 Va Tech 6 UNC 2 Ga Tech 7 Vanderbilt 0 South Florida 9 Central Florida 9 La Tech 8 Baylor 1
Potential teams to make a super conference of 16 Teams: Liberty 919 South Alabama 817
Division 1: Division 2: Army Navy UConn Va Tech Duke South Florida Baylor BC Vandy La Tech UCF UNC UVA Ga Tech Liberty South Alabama
What would you Name the Divisions??? What would you name the Conference??
Division 1 - MacArthur Division or maybe Corporate HQs Division 2 - Nimitz Division Tech Support
So according to my own analysis as Commish I have to come up with a few more teams to replace those who aren't going to be willing to join the conference (Duke, Vandy, Baylor, UNC, UVa). Also to be considered is the conference needs some "name" teams to make it pop!
Teams to consider Liklihood AF 5 Rice 7 Iowa St 3 Pitt 7 (assuming demise of BE) Temple 9 (ditto) Tulane 9 (need a team that Army beats regularly) UAB 9 (If I am commish I want Army to play where I live)

I don't think Pitt cares about the Big East's demise, since they'll be in the ACC effective 7/1/13. :-)
Expect that this adventure is going to be difficult. It is going to be hard. And expect to win.

RE: Army & Navy should be driving forces in a new
Well you have us thinking but this is just not going to happen....UCONN does not want to go with Army and Navy....The Huskies want the ACC or Big 10....BC is not leaving anytime soon, especially with Syracuse and Pitt joining the ACC....
But there may be something to this. Army and Navy need to take control of their own future and find a FOOTBALL league tht makes sense for them.....ok, lets start with some orphans....
Assume UCONN AND Cincy get picked up by someone....that leaves Temple and South Florida, plus Tulane and East Carolina....plus Army and Navy makes six.....I think UMASS could be 7....now we need three more teams at least..Old Dominion, Villanova, Delaware, James Madison come to mind.....any suggestions on this????

Re: Army & Navy should be driving forces in a new conference
I just do not get all the interest in Army playing conference football again. I do not see any significant benefits for Army. Revenue? From what little I know, Army is not struggling for revenue. We have substantial TV revenue from A/N game and CBSSports broadcasts. Until we improve substantially, bowl tie-ins are irrelevant. We cannot even make it to the paltry minor bowl tie-ins we already have.
Army needs to forge its own path. Being a historic & unique institution, we need to create & follow a unique path to success. The Big time football factory & BCS Super-conference model is not for West Point.
Play Hard. Have Fun! Moose Out.

I don't think we have the credibility to be the driving force of anything. We are a punchline. I watched the Sun Bowl and Vern Lundquist was recalling his first visit to El Paso to do the 1988 game. He led in with "it was Alabama and...ARMY!" Then he and the color guy laughed for a few seconds at how absurd that sounded.

Old Dominion is already committed to C-USA, so I'm not sure they would be interested in an unknown - unless C-USA falls apart. Also, I don't think Villanova, Delaware, or JMU are going to move to FBS. Maybe UMass, but I'm not sure they would give up the stability of the MAC for an unknown.

If Verne's prep had been complete, he would have mentioned that the rosters of this game and the game on his first visit had something in common. One of the starting O lineman for Army in 1988: Braun. One of the #2 O linemen for GT in 2012: Braun.

A PUNCHLINE. All these past couple decades I have been a supporter of a punchline. Money for the AAA, The A Club, donations, tickets, concessions, souvenirs, my collections of Army memorabilia. And we nothing more than a punchline. Its very difficult to accept that but at my stage in life, why not? I'm used to the defeats, accept it and just keep on truckin' down the road. You never get used to the abuse and the frustration of it all tho.
