There have been rumors he's headed to Purdue.

MAC coaches are underpaid
Based on the MAC coaches' salaries (excluding bonuses or perks) you'd have to think some of them would be prime candidates for a lot of bigger jobs.
Akron - Terry Bowden - $375,000 Ball State - Pete Lembo - $350,000 Bowling Green - Dave Clawson - $363,000 Buffalo - Jeff Quinn - $325,000 Central Michigan - Dan Enos - $325,000 Eastern MIchigan - Ron English - $360,000 Kent State - Darrell Hazell - $300,000 Massachusetts - Charley Molnar - $400,000 MIami - Don Treadwell - $410,000 Northern Illinois - Dave Doeren - $420,000 Ohio - Frank Solich - $500,000 Toledo - Matt Campbell - $360,000 Western Michigan - Bill Cubit***- $377,000
*** Bill Cubit's been fired

Boston College will likely pluck a MAC coach as well (their new AD, Bates, comes from Miami-Ohio and knows the conference well). However, several of the "rumor" sites I follow have Mike Sullivan's name in the BC mix...

Coach Solich
Did any info ever come out on why he turned down Army's offer? Money? Unfixable program? Too many constraints? No question this is a critical piece of info Army hiring officials need if they're prospecting for a new HC. Hopefully, someone is capturing.

Re: Coach Solich
It's a real shame it didnt work out with him. He is an offensive genius. I firmly believe with his formations and ability to innovate...We'd be sitting pretty. What a job he has done at Ohio. Re: Coach Solich
I have no idea why Solich turned Army down. I think tho he realized that Army would not make a commitment to improving the product. By commitment I mean showing interest in much of anything connected to bring Army a real shot in recruiting and the ability of him(Solich) calling the shots on most decisions resting with the program. By that I mean that in the Army , the boss (the Supe) makes ALL the decisions even tho he knows not a damn thing about running a football team and HOW to win in the big leagues (FBS).

The only thing that seems obvious to me is the fact that losing is about the only thing "mandatory" in football anyway as far as the administration is concerned.

By that I mean that in the Army , the boss (the Supe) makes ALL the decisions even tho he knows not a damn thing about running a football team and HOW to win in the big leagues (FBS). The Supe has more important things to do than making purely football decisions. The one thing that he does mandate is that the mission of USMA takes priority over athletics, and that student athletes are cadets first and athletes second, which in turn requires that athletes follow the same policy as other cadets with regard to academic and physical requirements. That's in Ellerson's contract, and I would expect that it would have been in Solich's as well. Solich may not have been happy with that provision, but if that's the case, he would not have been happy at WP. The purpose of AAA is to support the mission of USMA, and the DIA undoubtedly signed a contract which states that. That priority may or may not originate with the Supe. I suspect that comes down from DA as well. It's also possible that the DIA at the recommendation of the search committee limited their selection to a HC who was willing to run some variation of the option. That's certainly a football decision, but I would expect that it came as a recommendation from the search committee rather than the Supe, himself. The Supe's role is to approve or disapprove the recommendations of the DIA in matters of hiring and terminating coaches. I have heard several complaints that the Supe is not concerned about improving the product (which may or may not have merit), but I have not heard any recommendations as to what specific actions he needs to take to demonstrate an appropriate level of commitment. The Supe works within constraints placed upon him by DA and the congressional oversight committee, and some of the comments about changing the nature of the service commitment are above his pay grade. Despite Plain's assertions, I've seen no real evidence that USMA has policies which limit football any more than Navy or AFA.

Addazio of Temple to Boston College too. And the latest move, Ellerson of Army back to 1 Partridge Place, his Winter Quarters on the banks of the Hudson.

That wasn't the case. The WP administration actually did everything right in making the offer and closing the deal. Solich got cold feet about taking an offer right away. He ended up spending 2004 touring college football programs and ended up with the new offensive scheme he's been running at Ohio since 2005. He would have been a good hire but you have want to be here. That was his call.
