One Game does not a Season make.

In spite of this win, I still believe RE is not capable of turning around Army FB.  In fact, the AF win only proves that RE is a poor coach.  This victory shows the type of Army Team that we fielded this season.  An Army Team with talent for 7+ wins including an SA victory and bowl game.  And, RE's pathetic coaching led this team to complete failure.

Throughout this season, this Army Team has been terribly mismanaged and under-coached by RE & staff.  Sine Qua Non....there is no other reasonable explanation for the spectacular Jekyll & Hyde character & inconsistent play demonstrated this season.   Today's exhilarating & stunning upset victory over Air Force does not change that inescapable conclusion.  To the contrary, this AF victory only proves RE's coaching ineptitude.

I have repeatedly stated that Army's limited success this season is in spite of RE, not because of him.  These players and the Corps rose to the occasion, bonded as Brothers and secured victory for themselves today.  To think otherwise is delusional.  Yes, ARF7, I still think Army needs a new HC.  That said, I do believe RE is highly likely to remain as HC for at least 1 more year if not entire contract.

And, as an aside ARF7.....

I hope to H3LL that RE proves me wrong.  If he does, I will be the first to drink myself drunk on RE kool-aid while feasting on crow pie.  And, I will happily invite Armorman et al as my tablemates.

More than anything, I want to see pride & respect return to the Army Football program.  I want our football players & the Corps to know the exhilaration & thrill of winning football at WP.

I am very happy about the AF victory for the Army Team & Corps, today & today only.  I will reserve further judgment until we witness today's success sustained by RE.  And, I actually do hope you are right about RE and I am wrong.  But, my 2 lifetime professional careers, once a soldier and now an attorney, do not often rely upon hope.....just the facts.

i think you're allowed to say "hell"

Your OPINION is driven by the fact that he's bigger, stronger, more mobile and has a stronger arm????  Jeez that must be ALL it takes to be a great QB under the Phatphelix system.

Today doesn't undue the last 8 weeks...

Only a consistent level of performance will return many of us to believers.  RE is a good man and is in his 4th year.  We have a good set of players and believe it or not a good coaching staff.  A win vs. AFA could be a turning point today.  Or it could be an outlier in the bigger picture.  We have 3 games left to see what this team is made of. If he wins out he'll likely get 1 more year.  At the end of the day coaches get paid to win consistently so let's no mistake that.

Vultures is harsh term.  People like myself and ARMORMAN have high expectations of our coach and our team.  You resort to name calling when we are merely holding others accountable.  Maybe your measure of success is 1 win but ours is not.  RE has the talent to turn this thing around but it will take a lot of work and continued focus to do so.

PD

RE: Just Wanted to Know

This could be a turning point. We have to show up next week against a very good Rutgers team. I agree with 86, this just shows what type of team we have and in a way makes this season even more dissapointing. To me the standards still have not been met and so to answer the question no I still am not sold on RE. Great win today by the team and glad for my brothers that they could get this win.

I agree if anyone think he has to beat Rutgers to return isn't paying attention.

You sound like one of those fans that has the mentality "Just beat AF and Navy" and we're a success. Everyone is delighted with the win, and full credit to the coaching staff for preparing the team. That said, 2-10 this season is a HUGE failure so let's hold on to the "I told you so"

I also enjoy hearing fans quickly jump up and praise the coach for this win, but its never the coach's fault when we're 1-7. It's "our talent isn't ready yet".

Re: Just Wanted to Know

Yes I am happy the team won vs AF.

Yes I am mad the team is 2-7.

Yes I would still (although I know he is going no place) like to see RE fired.

I often wonder what the RE kool aid drinkers at WP or on this forum are watching every week? A team that often last year and this year did not show up and was not prepared to play games. I guess one win over a rival forgives the 5-16 record over last year and this year so far.

I guess you RE lovers would be ready to give RE a lifetime contract if Army somehow finished 3-9 again with win #3 coming against Navy.

The only way I would change my mind about RE would be IF (a huge "if") Army wins out this year and wins 7 or more regular season games next year. There is no more excuses about players at USMAPS that need to get to WP. What will it be next year? The new USMAPS players need a couple of years to get used to playing ? The lame excuses for RE not doing a good job have to end.

I am also tired of the lame posters excuses that "all those that are against RE care about is the teams record". That always makes me laugh. "There is no substitute for victory" . If anyone here thinks wins do not matter why do those words hang by the Army locker room? Those words do not seem to carry much meaning with a lot of RE lovers.

Re: Today doesn't undue the last 8 weeks...

Whoa...I'm not saying he would deserve to come back but I am saying that he likely will if he wins out.  Two very different things in what I believe should happen and what could happen.

You might think that it would be an easy decision but you don't know what I know and you don't know where I've been.  I've seen Coaches beat Navy and have it save their job with several years of bad performance.  If he breaks the 10 year losing streak he will most certainly stay at least 1 more year regardless of the culture or the inside issues that seem to be surfacing up.

Our administration is more about form than function.  They are not concerned with winning across the board but a Navy win is a different story.  We will see what happens.  Gotta get past Rutgers first.

RE: Just Wanted to Know

The question of whether he comes back does not at all depend on winning out, and it should not. One of our remaining games is against the only ranked team on the 2012 schedule, and it's on the road.

giant's firsts two sentences are a very good summary of the season:

Yes I am happy the team won vs AF.

Yes I am mad the team is 2-7.

Re: Just Wanted to Know

Let's just say that according to the players on the team the coaching staff is causing a lot of drama and chemistry issues. A lot of the players say that some of our best players don't even get a fair shot at playing time. This is mostly because a lot of the Ellerson recruits are getting the nod ahead of firsties and cows that coach didn't recruit. The reason the team came out with fire this game was because they were all determined to take it to the zoomies. In all reality, everybody knows that this win secures Ellerson's future for one more year. In my humble opinion, next year is his must win year since all his players will be the experienced veterans of the team which will hopefully eliminate some of the drama the players have been talking about.

Everybody is extremely happy with the win over AF. Happy enough to were the talk of the corps has turned from 'our football team is awful' to 'I can't wait to see us beat Navy'. I honestly haven't seen the corps this excited about the football team, not even my yuk year when we won the bowl game.

Re: Just Wanted to Know

USMA13, if what you suggest is accurate, it is disturbing.  I agree RE will get at least one more year no matter what happens the rest of the year.  I do question that RE play his recruits over better Firsties.  TS was not a RE recruit.  Maybe RE has been told his job is safe so he is trying to develop younger players for the future.  The good Lord only knows.

USMA2013, I am glad to hear that the Corps is getting pumped up. The football team's legion of detractors forget how an event like that can energize the corps. The Cherry Bowl team of 1984 had all of us walking around saying, "Our team may be undersized and undertalented, but they're f_____g badasses!"

Beat Rutgers.

Do you have examples or is this just hyperbole?

Re: Just Wanted to Know

RedLeg94 - Not sure why you find 2013's comment disturbing. Many posts on this board about the apathy and lethargy of the Corps at home games. Good to see the Corps fired up for once. I know that we all feel that the Corps should be fired up ALL the time for the football games, regardless of the record, but I think that's unrealistic. Some Navy posters here have talked about the change in attitude in the Brigade towards the Navy team, pre-Paul Johnson and after his arrival. As the team went from being a consistent loser to a winning team with many bowl appearances (and several wins over Notre Dame), you could see (and hear) the rise in the Brigade's enthusiasm over several seasons as you watched the games on TV (I always enjoy the Navy-Notre Dame game on TV).

I graduated in 1980. During my four years at WP, we had one winning season, one win over Navy (my yuck year; I still display a chunk of the goalpost), and regularly got beaten pretty decisively by teams such as Notre Dame and Pitt (Tony Dorsett ran wild against us). I think that Eddie Meyers (spelling?) gained over 200 yards against us in the Navy game my cow or firstie year.  Looking back, I'd like to say that we were all fired up for every game, but honestly, there were many times when people were pretty sarcastic, almost cynical. Watching the bowl games of the Jim Young years on TV after I graduated, you could see (and hear) the enthusiasm in the Corps. People respond to winning. These cadets now have endured over a decade of losing to Navy, and except for the bowl game a few years ago, well over a decade of losing seasons. Put together a couple of winstreaks, or a few good seasons, and the attitude will change. 'Til then, human nature being what it is, I think that the Corps' attitude towards football will be, at best, neutral. I don't like it, but I think it's human-nature.

All that being said, I'm not sure of the nature of your comment, ref "disturbing." Please elaborate.
