Divisions decided
Ok you Falcon Fanatics, We know who we are playing in the Mountain Division and will be looking at 3 crossover games with teams from the West Division. Eight conference games, Navy & Army, IAA and hopefully one of the "Big Boys". This division will require AF to definitively step up their game! Mike http://www.mercurynews.com/sjs...tball-divisions

Re: Divisions decided
Seven conference games would’ve provided less familiarity from West Div teams and a chance to schedule a two perennial top 25 teams. This would give exposure and hopefully more money within the bonus system.
Still very glad we didn't jump into that BE mess!

Re: Divisions decided
It kind of seems like the same thing to me... Three things to say:
First, our division and crossover games will be plenty tough... Not a lot of incentive to "schedule-up" for our two "open" opponents. However, I hope we do schedule-up at least one of the games... If we insist on playing 1AA for the opener, please make up for it with a marquee team. At least 2013 is set with ND.
Let's see, we traded BYU for Boise State, Utah for Utah State, and perhaps TCU for Fresno St... To me, the murderer's row ahead of us is less formidable than what we use to face year in and year out in the old MWC.
third, I forget.

Re: Divisions decided
Utah State and Fresno State ended their 2012 seasons ranked in the Top 25 and while they both have new HCs I don't expect them to drop off very much in their level of play. Mike http://www.fbschedules.com/nca...l-schedule.phphttp://www.fbschedules.com/nca...ll-schedule.php

Looks solid to me. Hopefully this structure will be around for a while.
I like that we're keeping some good rivalries, keeping the MWC in tact, and we don't have to cater to the Provo crybabbies...

No question about it...

Re: Divisions decided
Fresno is pretty consistent, but unlike many here, I am not impressed yet with Utah State or San Jose. And even San Diego State, I'm just now giving credit to.
This was Utah State's 2nd winning season (last 2 years in a row) in the past 15 years. Sorry, but 2 years in a row and losing 13 years in a row, doesn't make for a winning PROGRAM.
This was San Jose's 2nd winning season in 12 years. Theirs isn't even 2 years consecutive. Again, that doesn't make for a winning PROGRAM.
This was San Diego's 3rd winning season in a row, and these 3 were the first winning seasons in 15 years. But it is 3 winning seasons. "The first 2 were with lindley and Hillman" who are both gone. But if they continue, I won't bring up the past again. Beyond 3 winning seasons in a row and I'll admit their PROGRAM is now a WINNING PROGRAM.
Basically, there's a difference between a winning SEASON/TEAM and a winning PROGRAM. Utah State and San Jose don't get my confidence yet. San Diego is almost there.
FWIW: I look at air force's record SINCE being in a conference. WAC & MWC. 33 Years. Air Force has 24 Winning Seasons - 7 losing seasons - 2 .500 seasons. And even the losing seasons were in spurts. E.g. 2004, 2005, 2006..... 1993... 1988... 1981,1980. I consider air force to have a winning "PROGRAM". Will they be perennial conference champs usually? No. Too many limitations. But I'd have to see 4 losing seasons in a row to say that they now have a LOSING PROGRAM. I feel the same about Utah State and San Jose State. They have way too many losing seasons to give them the respect of having "Winning Programs". They'll need more than 2 seasons in a row.

Re: Divisions decided
If Utah St and SJSU are going to have Top 25 seasons every few years, then that can make up for lots of losing campaigns in the meantime.
