SDSU working on BE exit statement

SDSU working on BE exit statement

Big East and San Diego State officials are working on a joint release announcing  a mutual agreement to dissolve San Diego State’s agreement to come to the Big East on July 1, 2013 according to sources familiar with the discussions.

At the same time, San Diego State and  Mountain West officials are finalizing an agreement which will keep San Diego State and Boise State in the MWC as full time members.

So MWC championship game next year?  Who do we want in AF's division?

Now that I look at it on paper, the divisions seem pretty obvious from a geographical standpoint -

Fresno St
SJSU
SDSU
UNLV
UNR
UH

------

AFA
UNM
CSU
WYO
Utah St
Boise St

Big East and San Diego State preparing to announce separation

It appears the Big East is about to get smaller. Again.

A source confirmed to CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler that the Big East and San Diego State are preparing to announce that San Diego State will be leaving the conference before it ever officially joined. The source told Fowler the deal is "close" but there's no timetable because lawyers are involved.

And as was the case when Boise State left the Big East in late December, San Diego State will be leaving the Big East in order to remain with the Mountain West. However, unlike Boise State, San Diego State will not have to pay the Big East an exit fee. The school negotiated a clause in its deal with the conference that if Boise State backed out it would be able to do so as well at no cost.

San Diego State's return to the Mountain West now gives the MWC 12 schools for the 2013 season. Meanwhile, the Big East is still expanding from eight to 10 schools in 2013 despite the losses of Boise State and San Diego State. Their departures don't mean the movement in the conference has stopped.

Louisville
and Rutgers will remain in the Big East in 2013 but will leave for the ACC and Big Ten respectively in 2014. They'll be replaced by Tulane and East Carolina. Navy is also scheduled to join the Big East in 2015.

Re: SDSU working on BE exit statement

Rivalry between Nevada and BSU is pretty damn intense I wonder if they would want a guarantee to have what should be one of two crossover division games be between them.  If this is the division AF ends up in it will be a tough road to win it and end up in the conference championship.  We have already seen the improvement in NM and I have a feeling we will see significant improvement in CSU this year. WYO is always tough and even with a new HC, I think USU continues to build off their gains and will present a very formidable foe.

AF is going to really have to step up their game to be a top tier program in this conference.

That's not hard to do.  The SEC did it with several key rivalries between East/West members.  Tennessee and Alabama play each other every year and they're in separate divisions.

Second, I like this setup.  Front range schools together and USU and BSU have their own little regional connection.  West schools are all good rivalries in the making.

BYU just might set up a ND-ACC association which wold be fine with me. I don't think this expansion is done, probably no changes in 2013, but I still think the MWC wants back into the TX market and we could see UTEP and UTSA join.

One other thing; AF really needs to find a way to get SDSU on their schedule because the last couple of years of losses to the Aztecs need to be corrected!

Re: SDSU working on BE exit statement

Big thing that I hope for....'if' we stay at 12 and go 5 games in division I hope it is only 2 out of division. Those 7 +Army/Navy+opener D2/FCS= 10 games and the capability to schedule two other upper their opponents. If/when we go 14 I would rather see 6+1 OOC but it most likely will be +2

Really may hep with OOC BBall scheduling with 11teams not counting Hawaii = 20 games home/away in conference then only 9-10 OOC games to schedule vice 13-14.
