Boise State is STAYING in the MWC

For those that wondered or cared........

Sources: Boise State staying in MWC

By Brett McMurphy | ESPN

Though Boise State never spent a day in the Big East, the Broncos still must pay a $10 million.......  http://espn.go.com/college-spo...nce-sources-say

No details yet but the article 'sounds' like no special TV rights to Boise St.  Navy is also going to continue to look at the situation and then make the best decision for them.  My thoughts, and not many would probably agree, would be to add Navy to the MWC in football only (such as Hawaii).  I think it would be good in several ways:

1) A stable football conference for Navy with the MWC

2) If in the same divisionn (assuming two in the MWC) as AF it would give both teams better ability to schedule another higher profile team in OOC. Example of AF we could play DII (as I call it) on parents day weekend, 8 conference games to include Navy, Play OOC Navy plus two others.  This would give us one more top OOC game than we have now in addition to keeping the S.A. rivalry intact.

3) This actually would give a good East Coast TV presence for the MWC while not becoming a two coast league.  Navy and Army both consider themselves national colleges just as Air Force so I believe it could be a good fit for both!  Navy brings a national TV  coverage due to it's long heritage and especially viewers from the east coast.  Travel for them would be away to MDT/PDT for only 3 or 4 more games a year as they already travel every other year to play us.

With Boise now the MWC has 1 good football team.

Boise is not really a national team that can dictate a TV contract.  Ask BYU how good that is, even with BYU TV the money is less in year 2 and falling for next year.  BYU is another that may come back.

Newest news is 5 other schools have been/are still in discussion with the MWC with SDSU one of them, but not an automatic invite to them.  My thoughts....

I think for total package when you look at football and basketball (another smaller market is baseball) then the addition of SDSU back is very good for the MWC. Ideal number as I see it is 14 with 2 7-team divisions playing each other in football and 2 from the other division plus 4 OOC games, a conference championship game and a bowl game. Add 'em up 12 regular season and definately 13 for the teams with our bowl tie-ins (6-7-8?) plus the championship game.

Many will say that football and football only drives the ship but look at what has happened with the loss of the good bball schools in the BE. SDSU helps that part of the MWC stay very strong and 'if' the football stays on track then it's a plus-plus.  For you football junkies only you may not realize but the MWC is #2 in the nation right now in RPI ranking with three in the top 25 (SDSU, NM, UNLV) and Wyoming and CSU getting votes.

What five schools?  I know SDSU is one of them.

Personally, I 'd like to see BYU SMU and Houston be added to the MWC.

You do realize that the MWC gave Boise the same deal Texas wanted from the Big 12.  They basically have a separate TV deal from everybody else and will make way more money than anybody else in the league.  They are calling it "bonuses" but it's basically a separate deal.  Can't believe the league agreed to it.
