BE+MWC meetings going on, thoughts on realign and AF quote..

From the Denver Post,

(my take from this is the sameold thing that we all know, realignment is NOT over yet. So, is there even a remote possibility of movement getting ready for the MWC? Maybe?  SDSU/BYU/BSU being talked to? Tulsa, Rice, UTEP, who else????)

College football realignment over? No way, says Mountain West Commish

So far in the latest flurry, the Mountain West has escaped changes, but Thompson hasn't closed the door to some possible moves.  "I do not expect status quo for at least a year," Thompson said Thursday in answering submitted questions. "No one knows for sure. Every day dozens of ADs, numerous presidents and almost all commissioners talk to someone about membership in varying capacities."…….and….

...... Lt. Gen. Michael Gould, superintendent at the Air Force Academy, said: "I, along with other MWC university presidents, continue to look across the landscape for ways to make the MWC even stronger and, from my perspective at Air Force, that could include entertaining requests from former members who are interested in re-joining the Mountain West."....

What I need to know is that 'kneed' is spelled wrong.  Thanks for all the other thoughts!

The BE will be lucky to get anything north of $60MM for a TV deal - a massive failure when once considers that most of the teams were told $100MM could be achieved.  Houston and Boise have escape clauses that allow them to bail from that disaster if certain revenue numbers aren't met.  If Houston, SDSU and BSU leave the conf, then it collapses completely.

Last year I thought it was a mistake that we sat on the sidelines but, in retrospect, turned out to be a prudent move.

RE: MWC meetings going on, thoughts on realign and AF quote.....

The BE and MWC are now facing the same challenges in dealing with what seems like never ending changes in DI college football. Chasing TV dollars is obviously a critical issue for both conferences and has been the primary motivation for in the departure of BSU and SDSU from the MWC. The BE in terms of football now finds itself in a precarious position given the mass defection of their top tier programs and their no longer having any better access to a BCS bowl bid then the MWC does.

It is absolutely critical that the MWC take aggressive steps in inking a lucrative TV contract that helps them retain current members, attract new members and puts them in a position of strength negotiating with former programs that see there is a distinct advantage in returning to the conference. The return of BYU to the MWC is much more of an attractive prospect than having SDSU decide to stay. If there is any truth to SMU and Houston negotiating with the MWC to join with Tulsa and possibly UTEP creates serious issues for Boise in terms of their access to western opponents. The idiotic notion that there isn't a very real possibility BSU and SDSU may be forced to reconsider their move to the BE is obviously ranting from a simpleton.

The time is now for the MWC leadership to make the most of the turmoil in BE and CUSA to strengthen their conference.

Big East is either crippled or dead...  the next couple of days are going to be interesting.  Not going to be surprised to see the rats who jumped ship so quickly start swimming back towards the MWC.

Not ready to declare HM a master of realignment maneuvers, but his lack of maneuvering is looking better and better.

Please don't kid yourself on Mueh here. This is Gould's decision. Mueh is a bystander drawing a paycheck as he's done very well for almost FORTY years at AFA. Gould calls all the major shots re athletics. God help us once he retires next summer!!!

There will no doubt be an all is well in the BE remain calm smoke screen response coming from the powers that be at BSU and SDSU based on we are football member only logic. The reality of what appears to be happening with these basketball focused institutions leaving is there is even less motivation for those current members like CT that have both sports to stay. Lots of flowers and candy being sent to the ACC by CT right now.

Well....well, it looks like the Big Least has finally died with 7 basketball schools leaving town.

So...Boise State, Navy and SDSU will be looking at CUSA or the western schools might get smart and go back to the MWC.

Navy needs to hope ND wants Navy in the ACC if ND will finally bring their football to the ACC.
