News Update:AF+ Extensive look around big wins/loses in MWC

More recap on AF's loss to Wichita State.  From their local newspaper, quote from their coach (3d article below):

"Wichita State’s Carl Hall leaned against the wall near the locker room and said a happy farewell to Air Force. He lumped the Falcons in with Evansville and Northern Iowa as foes he would just as soon skip on the schedule.

“I’m glad we don’t play them again,” he said. “They’re tough, man. Backdoor cut after backdoor cut. There’s a counter to everything. It’s hard to stop.”

Big few days in MWC.  Last night ranked NM (9-0) beats USC.  Boise St, after beating #11 Creighton, gets blown out by Utah (as they remembering/honoring former Coach Majerus who passed away).  Biggest game of interest to AF fans, CSU loses to CU in Boulder.  Comparison of CU vs MWC teams (so, do you think the home team gets some call???)

RE: News Update:AF+ Extensive look around big wins/loses in MWC

Not sure I'm a fan of this line from the Mooney article.

“It’s a great opportunity,” said Mooney, who said he believes his chances of ever seeing military combat are slim. “I will get paid right out of college, and maybe get my master’s for free. I will develop as a person.”

Not that I wish anyone see combat time, but the attitude seems a little... off?

RE: News Update:AF+ Extensive look around big wins/loses in MWC

Irish...I agree and yet I take it with a 'grain of salt'.

I entered the Academy in '73 at the end of the Vietnam era....Dad was enlisted...I had a 'little' clue but didn't really think much about the 'what ifs'.

Fast forward a few years (ok...just had my 35th reunion) and it's been along time since you've heard about airpower in Desert Storm, etc, and it comes as no surprise that a young person might not have the 'war thing' somewhere on the top of his list of possible future tasks.  I am sure that the coaches discussed the mission of the Air Force as well as the Academy and explained commitment and what it means.  Unfortunately, most 17-18 yr old kids, beginning their senior year of high school and getting a solid mid-major school such as Air Force offering, just might not speak about reality and the real world in the future when being interviewed.

Not the first kid to say something like this and will not be the last (especially if they have no military background in their friends or family as this kid may or may not)

Best of luck to him and his future and hope he has a solid senior year in his academics and basketball (in that order!!!)
