I'm glad there were no moves. I did n't want to see prospects traded. Really glad that Zobrist thing I posted seems fake too.

When asked about improving # Pirates bullpen, Huntingon's first response was moving someone out of rotation when Cole comes off DL.

I think Volquez can be excellent out of the pen.  He can throw 95-98 in 1 or 2 inning stints.  I think that really boosts the pen.  I've said that all along.

The question will be who gets moved to the pen and how do they feel about that?  Volquez and Liriano are set to become free agents at year's end, correct?  I can't imagine them or their agents will be too thrilled with moving to the bullpen.  What about Worley?  Is he also a free agent after this season?

No.  He's not eligible until 2018.  First year ARB next year I believe.

i rather see morton go to the pen honestly IMO,I think he would give the most value as an innings eater then Volquez

Are you kidding me?  Seriously?  Morton is one of our best starting pitchers and has been consistent.  Volquez won't be an innings eater if he goes to the pen, he'll be a 1 or 2 inning guy throwing gas.

Why do Pirates fans not like Morton?  It is unbelievable.  He would be the #3 starter for almost every rotation in baseball lol.

Had a gut feeling it was all PR. They think since they contended last year it gives them more time to make more money. Nuttjob is happy as hell.

Re: Huntington Comments

Price didn't want to play for the Pirates, didn't consider the team "proven winners".

If you really think the Pirates intentionally leak "rumors" that they are involved in trades, you're beyond paranoid.  If you think that you're an idiot basically.

It doesn't work like that.  These media members don't just go to the Pirates to see who they are interested in, they also inquire to the other team and get info from them.  Do you think other teams "lie" for the Pirates as well? lol.  Ridiculous.  The team traded for Marlon Byrd and Justin Morneau last season, Wandy Rodriguez the year before that, and Derek Lee and Ryan Ludwick the year before that.  Do you really think they don't want to trade?  Plus they still have another month.

Re: Huntington Comments

Yeah all the National writers reporting the Pirates were trying to get Lester and Price, etc...are all in on the "PR" stunt the Pirates are pulling.

Just dumb.

Re: Huntington Comments

I would say Worley goes to the Pen. That's my opinion.

And guys. Come on. Everyone in here is not always right. And when somebody says an opinion, there always seems to be a few posters here that like to call these individuals names about it. No matter what some of you think, you do not know the Pirates organization in and out. If you do, then prove your a worker inside the organization. If you were that high up in the org, you would not be posting here.  Since no one is, respect peoples words without calling them names. Damn sometimes I get so pissed reading this site. Which could be a very fun and informative place from time to time. There are very knowledgeable people in here. But show some respect from time to time.

Speaking of wrong opinions....tongue

Worley just threw the first complete game shut out of the year.  No way he should go to the pen.  I think Volquez is the best option, especially given the re-emergence of his fastball.

Regardless, it's a nice problem to have. Better that trying to decide who to move from the pen to start.

Re: Huntington Comments

I think the Pirates were absolutely willing to trade top prospects for established players. The Pirates are a ML baseball team that is known throughout the region. They aren't some new car dealership that needs publicity.....

I'm disappointed that nothing happened, but with the pieces that were moved I'm not shocked the Pirates couldn't get anything done... it's still a team that should win at least 85 games AND should be playing meaningful games in September.

Yep. I agree. I am disappointed as well. I love Charington, Beane and Dambrowski as a baseball fan. Those dudes were playing at the high stakes table over the past few weeks with chips flying. At some point NH is going to have to push with both hands into the middle of the table. I just don't feel like he believes that now is the right time.
