be nice to resign Morneau but I think you are right Would be nice to keep a guy who could bat .265-.270 with 20HR's a year though.

Byrd, given his age might agree to a team-friendly one year contract but I don't think Morneau is going to be affordable.

Morneau would be the only one I would consider. Byrd is 36 and having an unexpected resurgence, not likely to be repeated ever. Buck? No way, Sanchez will back up Martin next season. Morneau is 32 and a lefty bat so I would make him an offer, but so will other teams.

I don't think the trades were made with the anticipation of any of them being back next year.

i agree. be nice though. i do agree Buck has no shot, Byrd I agree he is 36 and doubt he does as good next year. maybe a decent option for 4th OF untill Polanco comes up but wont be upset if He isnt signed.

Morneau I agree will have lots of teams. He has been around awhile and Im assuming wants to play for a shot to win. Depending on the offers he could have a shot to stay I suppose

Players almost always go to the highest bidder. The agent has a lot of influence here and decisions are made with the head, not the heart. Will the Pirates even offer, who knows?

Morneau made $14 million this year.  His production has really fallen off since 2011.  I don't think the Pirates would pay him more than $6 or 7 million.  The Pirates could easilty afford him at that salary if they parted ways with Jones and Gaby.  If someone else is willing to give Morneau more than 2 years, $15 million I think the Pirates would be out at that point.

Given Byrd's age, steroid history and the coming of Polanco, it would be foolish to sign Byrd and block Polanco when you already have Marte, Cutch, and Tabata.

With Tony Sanchez being ready it would be foolish to pay Buck (currently makes $6 million per year).

Could care less right now, its just fing incredible after 20 plus yrs we are back in this position and playing to win now!!  That said, if we can keep any of the 3 at a bargain base price I'd be all for it!

Bird making 750k, I am sure they will bring him back 2 year 5 mill contract. Insuarnce for Tabata and a mentor.

Jones is done Moreau depending on the price if not Gabby and Lambo will split the duties

some people have enough money to where if they find a home they like, they sometimes stay put. 2 yr 14 mil and solid all around and give BYRD a little feed and this is a fun and inexpensive ball club

I think this is the likely outcome, except that I think it will be a one year deal for Byrd as a bridge to Polanco, with Tabata moving to the fourth OF role.  Jones won't be back.  As Sangue indicated, 2 years and $15 million is the upper limit for Morneau at this point in his career.  I would be happy to have him for those years and that money, though it remains to be seen if he wants to return to the AL or even to Minnesota.  If Morneau goes elsewhere then yes, it will be Gaby Sanchez and Andrew Lambo next season at first.  Some risk there, as Lambo is unproven, but he's really come on strong in the minor leagues this year and probably has nothing left to prove down there.

I don't want anything to do with Byrd next year, I fully expect his production to fall off a cliff.  Maybe Morneau, but only if it is for less than 5 Million, if not I don't resign any of them.  Use internal options and other free agents.

I actually could see Morneau. Something tells me he will be one of those guys that falls in love with Pittsburgh. Plus he may see the chances he has to win in the next few years with what the Pirates have going.

I'm with many others on Byrd. This is a career year, and I would not want to see him back other than a vet minimum and the 5th OFer.

Something about Morneau's swing reminds me a little of Jason Thompson.

Anybody besides me remember the four---yes, four---grown men who used to sit in a row at Three Rivers Stadium, all four of them wearing complete Jason Thompson Pirates jerseys?  Man, that was...uhh, strange.

Marlon Byrd's 50 game suspension last year was actually not a steroid, he took a pain medicine that had a chemical that can be used to mask steroids in drug tests, so I personally doubt he has used steroids.
