Inge Watch

Brandon Inge
Salary: $1.25M

Games Played:  45
At Bats:  94
Runs: 5
hits: 19
2B: 3
3B: 0
HR: 1
RBI: 7
total bases: 25
BB: 2
SO: 28
SB: 0
BA: .202
OBP: 0.227
SLG: 0.266
OPS: 0.493
OWAR: -0.5

Only Pedro Alverez has a higher strike out percentage for any player with more than 20 at bats on the team.  No power, no average, high strike outs.  What does Inge add to the team on the field???

RE: Inge Watch

Helps keep the fans at the ballpark a few degrees cooler with all the swings and misses?

Helps out Pirates concessions by ensuring the game will go extra innings when he's brought in for a key game winning pinch hit during a tie game?

Comedic relief when he plays the outfield?

Re: Inge Watch

He is awful, he will be gone soon enough.  I was completely wrong about him, if he catches on somewhere else and contributes who cares.  He isn't doing it for us.

Re: Inge Watch

He was a mistake from the get-go, between his age and coming off shoulder surgery. Hurdle had his heart set on a veteran for the bench and he got Inge. I hope he's learned a lesson.

I will say Inge has committed no errors this year in the field.  but I wouldn't say he has tremendous range.

RE: Inge Watch

I love Inge as a person and a clubhouse guy, but he provides nothing a the plate, maybe even less than nothing. With that being said, I am not sure that the Pirates will get rid of him.

Re: Inge Watch

Steller play by Inge over the weekend.
Saturday 0-2 1 SO
Sunday 0-4 1 SO

Can't believe I can say this but Clint Barmes is a better option for offensive production both in average and power, not to mention defense.

Re: Inge Watch

Its so bad that 100% of the people on this board want Inge to go.  We almost never reach a 100% concensus on anything.

Inge fails at both the saber and old school eyeball tests.

True, but saying Inge should go is so easy it is a no-brainer.

The interesting question (to me) is why is he still here.  It isn't as if his production just started to fall off.  He hasn't been productive all year long -- yet he is still on the team.  There has to be SOME REASON for that.  Neal Huntington isn't an idiot, he can read the numbers just like everybody here can, and I assume he watches the games like the rest of us do.  Cutting Inge wouldn't cost much money and there are suitable replacements.

Obviously there has been some organizational decision that Inge has value to the team aside from producing numbers on the field.  It is just that none of us here know what that value is.  As I've said, while I don't get the Inge thing any more than anyone else, as long as we're playing well and winning, I think we have to trust that Huntington and Co. know what they are doing (with Inge and everyone else).

I wouldn't be surprised (or disappointed) if Inge were cut today.  But I also wouldn't be surprised if he stays with the team for the rest of the season.  With his numbers, who would have guessed he'd still be now?

I don't know how his spot was justified out of Spring. I was crying for Pie over him back then.

Re: Inge Watch

And now with Walker hurt, he is the starting 2B. Talk about a huge dropoff, offensively and defensively. What about DeJesus since Harrison can't come back up yet. Of course if they put Walker on the DL, Harrison could be brought up. I know this is a bad attitude, but I actually root for Inge to fail when he is playing. Anything to speed up his DFA.

We have the Inge-Barmes double play combo tonight...

All Star Pedro Alvarez is hitting 4th.

Re: Inge Watch

Oh jeez, that is a horrible bottom third. Locke might be the best hitter in the bottom third lol. At least Alvarez is up and Jones down un the order.

Re: Inge Watch

I'm not a big JHay fan, but I'd rather see him in there than Inge if they aren't going to call DeJesus up.  Hopefully, Walker doesn't land on the DL and is only out a couple days.

I'll go with the positive thought that Inge "is due".  Absolutely no rational reason to think that, but that's all I got.

If they replaced the 6-7-8 with Lambo, Harrison and Mercer, I'd be pretty excited.

Re: Inge Watch

Walker is starting to display the durability of a porcelain doll the last 2 seasons. If this is going to continue to be the case the Pirates had better develop something much better than Inge as a replacement from down in the farm system.

Re: Inge Watch

I really like 1-5 in the lineup tonight.  Hope we can scratch out a few runs at the top of the order and hope locke shuts em down.  No long innings with that lineup.

Yeah this is starting to be a problem.  Hanson should only be about a year and a half or less away from the big leagues, so he might be our answer.  Hopefully Walker can just get healthy and stay healthy, but I don't have confidence in that.

Put in De Jesus Jr. for Harrison and I am right with you.
