Anyone else notice that...

Anyone else notice that...

every thread at some point ends up becoming a bash fest on either Hurdle, Huntington, or Nutting?

I say we make a board pact.  We make a thread... it can even be this one, where we only bash those 3.  All you're allowed to do is bash one or agree with someone... no disagreements allowed.  Just complain and move on.  Then hopefully we can actually stay on topic in the other threads.  biggrin

It's just a thought.

I'm not bashing, but does anyone have a reason why Hurdle replaced Watson with Grilli with 2 outs, nobody on, and a 5 run lead in the 9th? It was harmless, just seemed a little odd.

Yeah, that jumped out at me, as well.  Maybe Watson got hurt and nobody said anything?  Or, does Grilli have some clause in his contract that he gets a bonus if he "finishes" X number of games and so Hurdle was trying to help him out?  Dunno, man. noidea

Had Grilli pitched lately?  My memory escapes me at the moment.  Maybe he was warm and figured he'd give him a little work noidea

Re: Anyone else notice that...

Grilli had had three days in a row off. The radio announcers said Hurdle probably wanted to just get him into a game just to keep him sharp. Just like relievers can be over used, they can become under used and become rusty. Bullpen work just isn't the same as the real thing.

I think every thread should have an "El Toro" reference.

We can only complain about those three guys?  This sucks.  This includes everything.  My paperclip holder.  My cat's litter pan.  My neighbor.

All of it.  Sucks.

I'll let Bob do my talking. I could not have said it any better. The starting rotation of this team is a joke, injuries or not injuries.

Cferral... not trying to call you out but in one thread you said how much credit NH should get for building SP depth. I could not disagree with more. What depth is there? Have retreads like Sanchez in your rotation and relying on guys like Morton, Locke, JMac, etc... is not depth. It is simply filling SP roles with bad pitchers.

I cannot stand Bob Smizik. Not for the Pirates, just in general.

Smizik'a goal often seems to be to irritate rather than to inform, educate, or discuss.

The linked column, however, does make some good (if obvious) points.  After six years of putting substantial resources (draft picks and money) into pitching, the organization has little to show for it so far.

Honestly, me either. I actually despise the guy and generally avoid reading his stuff.

This time though, the headline interested me because I remember reading the thread where it was being debated about the SP depth and Cferrel saying how NH deserved alot of credit for building it so well. I did not post at the time, but I remember thinking, WTF am I missing. This rotation and its depth is in shambles.

It is injuries, they Pirates have been overwhelmed early this season with injuries.  It happens, and it really isn't hard to understand.

Burnett, Rodriguez, McDonald (if healthy), Karstens, Liriano, Morton, Locke, Cole, and now Irwin.  Yes, we lack an ace, but that is the definition of depth.

And what are you talking about?  Morton, Locke, and JMac are bad pitchers?  You lost credibility there.  Morton had a sub-4 ERA and was a ground ball machine before the injury and JMac showed what he could do when healthy the last couple seasons.  He isn't a front-end starter, but he is a guy that will get you some strikeouts and have around a 4 ERA.  That isn't bad.

Re: Anyone else notice that...

He hasn't lost any credibility.  He just disagrees with you.

Based upon their career and/or season numbers, it would be quite easy to make the case (as Smizik did) that Locke, McDonald, and Morton are "bad pitchers".
