I say 82 every year and eventually, I will be right!

In all honestly I see them in the same range as last year (79) so 82 is within reach so I will go with that as my real answer!

I say 82 every year as well!!!!! I believe we FINALLY have some great leadership in the clubhouse this season. We did last year but I really thought it was a mistake when Neal traded away Casey MCGehee. Russell Martin will bring a lot of veteran leadership to the clubhouse everyday and also Brandon Inge if he makes the team. This season depends on the pitching for sure!

81-80, with the last game not being played as it doesn't figure in the playoff hunt.

Re: How many wins for the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates?!

I would LOVE to see this team win 88 games but I don't see it just yet. Snider would have to have a very good season or at least a good platoon in right field from Snider/Tabata. It could happen but I don't see that happening. It seems like everything will have to go right. If this team can steal more and if the pitching does good we could get to 88 wins but I don't see it until next year when Cole and Taillon are both our 1-2 punch.

I've been saying 72-90 every year, for the last four years. This year I'll make a claim for 83-79.

I'm hoping for 88-92 so I can go to PNC park for some playoff baseball, but I expect something in the 78-82 range. The team is improved, but a lot of the competition is as well.
THE IGNORE FUNCTION IS A BEAUTIFUL THING

I can really see 83 wins, that makes the most sense, between 79-85 but 83 is realistic and as long as they go 82-80 and FINALLY break the streak I will be a happy/excited Bucco fan!

I was thinking 83 as well.  Doggone it...proof that my paranoia isn't entirely unwarranted.  Where the hell did you put the wires in my head?

Re: How many wins for the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates?!

And I believe if Walker would have never got hurt in September we would have ended the losing streak and we would have at least been 82-80. This season depends on the pitching, Burnett should have another good season. JMac needs to pitch good the whole season including the 2nd half which he didn't pitch good last year in the second half. Wandy is an innings eater he will go at least 6 innings on average. Liriano I believe will break out and Cole should be up by June or July. Tabata and Snider could be a good platoon in right field. We for sure should get to 83 wins maybe even 85 if this team stays healthy.

Re: How many wins for the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates?!

I like Burnett and Wandy in the rotation and I see no reason why they can't be extremely productive.  As for the rest of the rotation, I have serious doubts.  I have no idea what McDonald will do.  Will he pitch like the first half?  Will he pitch like the 2nd half?  How about somewhere in between?  Honestly, I have no clue.  Locke, McPherson, Liriano, Karstens?  No clue.  It's a real crapshoot.  There's a decent chace that as a whole, these guys will perform quite well... there's a similarly decent chance that they as a whole, these guys will perform poorly.  I think the bull pen will be fine.

The lineup I like... sort of.  I think there's a chance this lineup could be really productive.  If Tabata does win the starting job, Alvarez hits in the 4-hole like he did in the 5th, and Marte progresses like we hope... this lineup really could be awesome.  On the flipside... Tabata could just be doing enough not to get sent to Indy, Alvarez could continue to be a 0.500 OPS batting 4th and Marte could struggle a lot... leaving this lineup in a bit of a pickle and perhaps struggle to score runs.

I can legitimately see few outcomes.  The pessimistic - if the rotation really struggles and lineup is erratic... 65 win season (odds of happening: 15%).  The split down the middle - everyone has a standard season with no one really blowing up... 80 win season (odds of happening: 60%).  The optimistic - if everything goes well and as we hope... 90 win season (odds of happening: 25%).  I'm going to plant my flag on 84 wins.  I'm going with "the split down the middle" option where we get a couple lucky breaks.

Re: How many wins for the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates?!

I couldn't agree more with you. We don't know how well Locke, McPherson, Liriano or Karstens will pitch. Locke is having a good spring training so hopefully when this team breaks North for opening day and the start of the season hopefully he pitches at least decent. McPherson has potential but I have no clue how he will pitch just like every other Pirate fan. Liriano is a good fit at PNC Park I believe so let's hope he can break out this year and return to his rookie form. I have all the confidence in the world in Karstens he always gets the job done even if it is just a spot start. Burnett and Wandy are the only two pitchers who I am sure will pitch well for the most part. I agree with you 100% about JMac! He better pitch like he did in the first half if not this team could have problems. But, Cole is on the rise and so is Morton. I really see Marte breaking out this year in his first full season and I believe he will be the PERFECT lead off hitter. Pedro should hit 30 homers again and my prediction is that Gaby Sanchez will have a good season and return to his 2011 form when he was an all-star. My final prediction on how many wins the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates will get is 82-80. If we still played Houston we would get to 85 possibly. I can see us getting to 83 like you say! Go BUCCOS! I am doing a 10 game plan again!

84-87

Over the hump, but not in the playoffs. But I would not be surprised if 87 wins takes the division.
