Sangue, I see you share my skepticism about McKenry.
Again, he's a good story, and obviously the Pirates got him for next to nothing, so basically anything he gives you is all profit, so to speak. He also showed a little more pop in his bat than I thought he had. But he doesn't hit for an average and probably never will, and his defense is nothing special. Generally you want a strong defensive catcher as your number two at that position. I guess at the end of the day what rubs me the wrong way about "The Fort" is that his style of play profiles more like a bat-first starting catcher, except that he probably doesn't have enough legitimate hitting skill to pull that off. So, he becomes a number two---except that he doesn't have the strong defensive game that you normally find with that sort of player. He's the catcher's version of a "tweener", in other words.
