The Gaming Thread: Madden 13 Is The Best Sports Game I've Played 

So I'm getting back into serious gaming now I have a career started and moved far away from home. Bought a 1080p Samsung HDTV, 32". Would have went bigger but I prefer 32" for gaming, which I'll use more than watching sports.

- Madden 13. Jaw dropping insane gameplay. Let's be honest; Madden has SUCKED the last 7 years. This is the best since 2005, and can compete with ESPN 2K5 as best sports game ever. In terms of gameplay and enjoyment, I'd put '13 ahead of 2K5. Overall it's a push, as Madden '13 doesn't have the same level of epic week-to-week league rundowns on sportscenter that 2K5 had. Franchise mode is still awesome. I took the Seahawks, am starting Matt Flynn, and am off to a blistering 3-0 start on All-Madden difficulty. The Passing Engine is INCREDIBLY realistic. The passing enginie in '12 was HORRIFIC. THANK YOU, EA Sports!!! You finally got it right!!!

- The stadium/city background graphics are a 10/10!! Especially Qwest Field!!

- The physics engine really is as good as advertised, if not better. This game on PS3, using an HDMI cord on a 1080p screen, is HEAVEN.

- No BS music blasting!!! It's all geared towards football, not mainstream hip-hop. The soundtrack is all orchestra music. I love it. My league is running a great realistic simulation to go alongside the real life league. I'll probably have a dynasty built @ Qwest Field by November. I don't miss the Fantasy Draft option because I always though that was stupid for football games.


Titles I am playing/about to get into:

- Mass Effect series (ME 2 best game ever? Possibly.)
- Dishonored (game of the year for 2012)
- Deadspace series
- AC 3 coming soon (hoping to finish a couple seasons of Madden, Dishonored, and the ME set before this hits stores on Halloween)

Been 7-8 years since I've gamed seriously. Looking forward to enjoying it once again biggrin

That sells me. I was thinking of getting either Madden or NBA 2K this fall, but I've always been an NBA Live guy and HATE to go with NBA 2K.

Ever since MVP Baseball never made it on to the next generation of consoles, it's been a bit barren in terms of excellent sports titles.

Glad to hear that Madden 13 is right up your alley. I'll be picking my copy up after work today.

I'm super excited about Halo4...but then again I've been an XBox360 fanboy since the start.

I'm actually upset with the new Madden.

I am a franchise junkie, and they really handcuffed people like me this year with the new careers mode.

The practice scenarios not only DOUBLE the amount of time it takes to finish a season, but they don't change! It's the same options every single freaking weak...over and over... And having to progress my own players??? That's ridiculous. Not to mention having the player ratings affected by my ideal player type at each position. All the power ups and stuff... it's just nonsense.

I want to play GM and play games... play 2-3 seasons myself... then sim another 4-5 seasons, playing only the playoffs. That functionality is pretty much gone. Very disappointing.

I agree.  The gameplay is cool.  The tackling is more realistic, the ability to run the same play over and over is diminished.. etc...  However, the franchise is clunky.  I havent played very much but as a guy who like BIMM, enjoys franchise first and gameplay 2nd, I am a little annoyed. 

On the other hand FA was kinda cool.  You cant just scoop up anyone you want and the trading is much harder and therefore much more realistic.   No more trading 3 backups for someone's 1st rd pick.  After the season ended,a  couple of my free agents wouldnt even allow me to negotiate with them.  That was cool. 

Overall, this stuff is amazing.   If they had this when I was a teenager, I would have never left the house.  I would have been a drop out..  I would have never gotten within 5 ft of a woman..  I would have wound up like the comic book store owner on the Simpsons.

I switched to NCAA from Madden a while ago.  I loved the aspect of bringing a losing program up through to the BCS (in other words, playing with Indiana was fun).  Agree that NFL 2K5 was the most fun pro football game I've ever played. 

The Mass Effect series is by far the best game series I've played on the current generation of consoles.  Absolutely incredible, and feels like you're controlling the action and plot in an epic sci-movie.  ME2 was the best of the three.

Eagles/Indiana/Mets/Villanova: it's a long story

Madden definitely disappointed this season. The franchise and fantasy draft was the sole reason why I loved the game. That and owning fools online...now the game isn't even worth playing all that much. I have discovered the Ultimate Team mode which is alright and a good change of pace. I haven't bothered with a connected career because it's a waste in my mind. The game play is solid and again I am beating people online.

Bought a 250gb XBox this week. LOVE it. Mostly because my 1st gen PS3 didn't have WiFi and this does. Social aspect of XBox also blows away PS3.

Currently am playing Kingdoms of Amalur. Super fun gameplay. Should be a fun 100 hours playing that thing. Blows away Skyrim, which I cant stand. Best Fantasy RPG I have played, and I LOVED Guild Wars.

Surprisingly I can't stand WoW, which people say is exactly like Amalur.

Too bad Curt Schilling can't run a business, because his one successful game is delightful.
