Wow. What a scumbag.
So, he made up a story about having a girlfriend dying of cancer to get publicity? The girl never existed?
Oh boy... If I am interpreting this correctly... what a loser.

So ridiculously weird. Sounded to me after reading the article that Manti was on the DL. Invented the girlfriend. This Tuiasosopo kid may have been just a friend, or maybe more, and acted as "the girlfriend" online. The stuff about his car accident and the supposed girlfriend's accident is just too weird. When things started to get more complicated (media may have started to get inquisitive about the girlfriend, will she be at games, etc) they decided to kill her off, not only would that get people off his back about her, but it could also add to the Teo legend/Heisman campaign. Either way I find this story hilarious and disgusting.

Either way I find this story hilarious and disgusting. Never thought of that. The article says that Tuiasospo had used this hoax once before. I don't know if that hurts or helps your argument. A couple of you have already said it, but man this is weird. I would love to be a fly in the room when these NFL execs vet him on this.

Re: The Manti Te'o GF Hoax...Wow
So, does anyone believe Te'o? Personally, I cant believe that someone with Te'o's options would have an online girlfriend that he never met. Maybe, some regular dude, but not a celebrity. I think he is full of sh-t.
I saw on Sportcenter that the fullback on the Cardinals, Reagan Maui'a, claims she is real and that he knew her? Is he just trying to defend Te'o, even though Te'o acknowledges that she is fictional?
Craziest thing I have ever seen.

RE: The Manti Te'o GF Hoax...Wow
Is Te'o saying he never even met her in person?? Or is he saying he was duped by someone pretending to be her in person?
This thing really is insane.
The thing that makes me think he might really be telling the truth and never had to get "more" from his "girlfriend" is that he is mormon. Aren't there like stricter rules to dating in the Mormon community that make this kind of innocence plausible?

Craziest thing I have ever seen. It's possible Te'o didn't know she was fake, but that would mean he had lied about how he met her and his father had lied about speaking with her. It's pretty tough to believe he wasn't in on this.

One of the most bizzare stories I've ever seen. No matter what the truth of the matter is, he really some needs professional help.
Eagles/Indiana/Mets/Villanova: it's a long story

RE: The Manti Te'o GF Hoax...Wow
I think the truth is somewhere in the between. Initially I don't think he knew she was fake. Look around on the internet, there are blogs dedicated to outing people who fake being cancer, leukemia, AIDS patients all for attention and sometimes money. The fact that he could be duped by one of these people doesn't shock me. But I think he found out at some point that she was a fake and decided to milk it for the publicity.

It says in the article that Manti claims he met her after a game at USC and they exchanged phone numbers. Either he lied about how they met or he is in on it.

Either he lied about how they met or he is in on it. To be honest I haven't read the articles so that was just me spitballing. I did just read something from an NFL player saying she is real now, so who the hell knows now. Theater of the absurd.
