Flu Epidemic --> Turned into baby discussion

Flu Epidemic --> Turned into baby discussion

Anyone else freaking out?

I'm completely paranoid...avoiding as many social situations as humanly possible..washing my hands probably 30 times a day...

I had the flu shot but hear it's only 60% effective... my fear is getting sick and then passing something on others during the incubation period before I even know I am sick...

Between washing your hands and getting your shot, you've done all you can. Hopefully this will wake people up to the insanity of not getting their shot.

I didn't even know about it until two days ago when my mom told me about it due to me not watching the news.

I am not worried for me or my pregnant wife.

I've never gotten the vaccine nor will I.

I'm heavily into holistic style of life, I don't think I've taken an antibiotic in about 6 years.

I freak out when there isn't an epidemic.

I had it around the time of the Dickey trade, but I don't think I had it as bad as most people have gotten it. The first time I had any illness of any kind in probably 5 years. My parents both had it and the tests said it was one that wasn't protected by the shot.

On top of the general paranoia that I have over this... I also have to deal with the fact that every day at work, I get a tickly cough that is gone by the time I go to bed at night and doesn't return until I get back to the office. It also is absent on weekends... I have had it only when in the office for the past 5-6 weeks or so. Very annoying...but also keeps me questioning EVERY day... "Am I sick, or is this just the 'office cough'"?

RE: Flu Epidemic

The office is a completely different animal. It used to be, in my old office, that I wouldn't sneeze the entire weekend - yet within 15 minutes of reporting back on a Monday.....I'd go into a fit of 5.

The dust that collects is astounding, not to mention - the ventilation systems they're not even attempting to clean out correctly.

For the record, I'm not a big flu shot guy.

This thread is like a collection of wash-women fretting to one another...

You don't need a flu shot. I mean maybe you'll get the flu and maybe you won't, but who cares? You'll be sick for a week and then you'll be fine.

It's not the plague, it's just a damn flu.

If you are so afraid of it, have your MD write you a script for Tamiflu, and then if you are coming down with it, take the pill.  You'll be fine in a day.

I'm not worried about dealing with the Flu myself... I'm worried about catching the flu and  (while still in the incubation period, before I know to stay away from her) getting my 12 week old daughter sick...

Okay, well at least this fear is somewhat understandable... I was getting ready to call you a big baby!

Just quit touching your face and you'll be fine.

More than likely you won't transmit the virus until you are feeling symptoms yourself, so just quit worrying so much!  Just clean yourself up on your way home, use purell or something before you touch your daughter.

IDK, I've just always felt like the more you worry about an illness, the more likely you end up getting it.  So stop thinking about it!

that's pretty funny.  first children can make a rational person go pretty bonkers.  that said, babies are usually pretty immune to most things for the first few months... so she'd be coming right into the period where she could get sick I suppose.

I'm also paranoid and wash my hands about a thousand times a day but I still end up getting something either from the rattling germbox (subway) which I try to avoid but take now and then, or that my son spreads around which he's picked up from school.  It's hard to avoid getting something.

congrats btw!

I remember when my 1st was born, my wife and I didn't sleep for the 1st 3 nights. Every hiccup, squeak, or little sound the baby made, (and they make a lot) we jumped up because we were worried about everything. They you get exhausted and just pass out.

Haha - congrats to you, too Stacks.  Guess we're all, more or less, in the same boat these days.
