So the Mets feel Ike is the superior 1b man even though they named Duda the starter.  eek1

Question: Which two baseball teams are an Italian's favorite?

Well, Ike is the superior 1B. Any preference for Duda has to be based on offense.

Excited about this game. The last time I watched a Mets-Angels saturday night was the Cliff Floyd game at Shea 9 years ago, ahh the Fran Healy days.

Weaver throwing 87-88 fastballs to Young Jr.

Colin Cowgill is starting.

That was a nice throw.  Nothing you can do.

So if they feel Duda is the better offensive player, why is Ike hitting ahead of Duda?  It seems to the only logical reason the organization favors Duda is the difference in their salaries.

There's no logical explanation for the handling of the 1B situation. Don't bother looking for one.

I know it seems like I'm splitting hairs (which I probably am), but those are two subtle details that contradicts the organizations stance on 1b.

The Dude with a bomb. Same spot as d'Aranud last night. So nice to get away from Citi.

1) I don't think their stance makes sense.
2) They clearly don't have a clear and definite stance. They say one thing and do another.
3) Their public stance has more to do with who they're giving the chance to fail first, rather than who they think is better, imo.

Agreed. There IS no logical reasoning; it has been as mishandled as it is possible to mishandle anything.

To be honest, I don't hate having Ike, Satin, Duda, and Brown all on the roster and mix and match sort of however. It's nice to have some thunder on the bench. Would be nice if those guys were a bit more versatile, but whatever.

What I don't like is the public handling of the situation. If you don't have a full-time 1B, then don't say someone's your starter. Just mix and match and call it what it is. Making these declarations and then recanting the next day is absurd.

The crazy thing about Granderson is that is seems like he is not really in a slump. He hit 3-4 balls in that homestand that were gone at Yankee stadium (and probably a bunch of other parks) and the rest of the time he's either hitting into the shift or striking out. I think he will be okay, but along with Wright, the two have been absolute blackholes in the 3-4 spot since the first game of ST.

Nice hook by Niese to get Ibanez to end the inning.  Niese has been very efficient so far.

Granderson's BABIP is 137 points lower than his career average. His HR/FB% is about half his career rate. BB% and K% are about on target. So his BABIP will rebound and his numbers will look better, but it's possible that teams are shifting on him more than they used to, and this is affecting his BABIP (not likely to the tune of 137 points, though).

There's not a logical one, but there is a simple one:  Terry Collins.

You know what? I'm not buying it. I think he's being told: play this guy for 10 games, no play that guy, etc. Last year it was pretty clear that Collins was loyal to Davis; even too much. I think he's probably getting conflicting directives which would be pretty typical of the Mets.
