Man, Utley leaned into that so much. I'm surprised guys get away with that.

I'd really like to see umps crack down on that. If you lean into a pitch, you don't get first base. If you don't make any effort to get out of the way, you get first base.

Wright gives them an early lead with a HR.

I really wish that TC would let Lagares hit 2nd in the order vs. lefties.  His BA has been steadily improving each month.  Murph really struggles vs. lefties and really is a poor fit in the 2 hole, anyways.  Give the kid a look there in the best spot in the lineup.  He'd also add additional speed up top with EY.

DW, HR!

A little what you can do, I can do better. Byrd makes it 2-0.

You know, the Mets might very demand an blue chip prospect for Byrd, now.  He's smoking hot as the trade deadline approaches.  Doesn't have to be someone in AAA or even AA ball.

I cant believe the year Byrd is having.

This is starting to become a little reminiscent of Gilkey's yr in 96.  (man, that was 17 yrs ago.)

No joke, the way Byrd is playing now, he's going to at worst net us draft picks as a free agent.  That should allow us to demand a better prospect.

The dreaded sig of doom has chosen future hall of famer Jason Heyward as its target.

May the baseball gods have mercy on your soul!

Note that I said that the Mets might demand a blue chip prospect, not necessarily actually get one.  However, as the Mets announcers noted, Byrd is starting to pop up into some top 10 stat lists.  They might get a team (and it only takes one) to blink and offer up a big time prospect like SF did a few years ago with Wheeler (who was a low A ball) for a Beltran rental.

You have to make a qualifying offer to get a draft pick.  That is not happening because that is the same as offering him like 10 mil+ for next yr.

There's no chance of that. The Mets would have to extend him a qualifying offer (1-year $14M contract) to get draft picks. There's no way that happens.

That was a downright filthy inning from Harvey.
