Niese looks good early. Lot of bad weather, liner off the ankle...it's time to press the reset button today and get his season going.

Great move by TC bringing in Atchinson to face Howard. Terrible managing.

Offense has been awful this entire homestand. It also seems that the BP gives up a 3-4 run inning every game. Going to be a rough year.

When Atchison and Lyon are supposed to be your 2nd and 3rd best RP's... you have serious problems.

This is going south....the BP is atrocious. Offense has also disappeared.

Great showing by the Mets this weekend.  They probably would have lost anyway but what a boneheaded decision by Collins to have Old Man Atch face Howard.

Question: Which two baseball teams are an Italian's favorite?

Answer:  The A's and O's

I know teams never are as bad as they look in slumps, but I had the Mets as a 74 win team. They don't even look that good.

This decline has started a little earlier than I thought, though inevitable. If they don't have a rebound road trip we could see the firing of Collins before June. I know it's not all his fault but something has to be done to shake things up, and a trade is not going to happen so Collins could be near the end. noidea

We are not in May yet and the decline has started. Frightening. If the schedule holds, it will be Niese, Harvey and Marcum against the Braves.

Re: 4/28: Mets vs. Phillies

TC can only play the cards he's been dealt.    Parnell appears to be the only guy he can rely upon at this time........with Scott Rice maybe a close second.    Everybody else is filler.   Lyon needs to throw way more curves and sliders and not leave that 85 MPH meatball fastball up there.      I think Atchinson is ok......but he's going to allow hits at times.

SA.......you've got a pretty expensive bunch of guys on your mgmt. staff........and you've pretty much not installed a bullpen since you've been here.........time for your feet to be held to the fire?

Mets bats are in a collective slump as well.........if Ike and Duda are punchless.....the rest of the Mets lineup becomes very pedestrian.

Re: 4/28: Mets vs. Phillies

I'm just very skeptical that this offseason brings great changes and we go from 70-72 wins to 83-85 wins. I just don't see it. Too many things are going to have to come together to make that happen. One, a high priority FA is going to want to sign with a 70 win team. Two, the bullpen needs a complete turnaround. Three, Wheeler and D'Arnaud are going to have to meet expectations (right now one is on the DL for the umpteenth time and the other isn't showing a whole lot in Las Vegas). Fourth, Ike can't go on a disappearing spree as seems the case once again. CF, RF, SS, pen, starting pitching...that's an awful lot of ground to cover.

Personally, I just we think we are expecting too many things to come together in one year/off season. Hopefully I'm way wrong, but even at this stage in the rebuild there are too many holes.

Wow horrific!!! I mean am I THAT out of line when I say the season could be over very soon? Terrible job by Sandy with the bullpen. I hope the Wilponzi's love when Citi is a ghost town May-Sept. Good way to make money.

What I don't understand is that the Mets seem very reluctant to let some of the new guys play.  Why bring up Lagares and have him sit most of the time.  DFA Byrd who is toast and give Lagares RF for a while.  Play Cowgill more consistently to see what he can do in a regular role.  Give Familia more innings.

I agree Byrd has no business being here... neither does some of the over the hill relievers. Decide on who you want in the OF... have a set lineup and stick with it for a couple months. That is the only way to get a decent evaluation on some of these guys IMO.

As long as that doesn't mean re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Up and down, up and down with relief pitchers between here and Vegas is just re-arranging.
