never have any complaints with the way you set up the draft list.  you do a great job of it but i like the way you have it set up this year a lot better.  its different.  keep up the good work deac

I just cannot overstate how happy I am with this draft thus far.  It's obviously predicated on signing some of these kids, but why would we draft them if we didn't have the budget to sign them?  Sign some of these kids, and on paper, it's our best draft in many years.

I've been following Josh Ake for a couple of years - he's been the star at Hunterdon C for a while and always a leader but the way he pulled the team together at the beginning of this season after one of the players tragically died in a car accident was something I'll never forget. A true character - he's got a scholarship to play at UNC. Wonder which direction he'll go.

Lawrence Central High School right-hander Christian Montgomery was drafted by the New York Mets in the 11th round.

"I'm really excited," he said. "I've been thinking about this day since I was little."

Montgomery, a 6-1, 230-pounder, committed to Chipola Junior College in Florida, but he said he will sign with the Mets.

"I just want to be in the big leagues," he said.

MacDonald said he did not expect several of the picks to fall to the Mets. He had Mazzoni tabbed as a first-round pick by someone and indicated he did not think Verrett would get to the third round. He also felt fortunate about Tuschak in the sixth. MacDonald added that ninth-round selection Alex Panteliodis, a left-handed pitcher from the University of Florida, was expected to go in the first three rounds in his mind. Panteliodis throws a “firm” 90-94 mph and was the Gators’ Friday night starter as a freshman and a sophomore.

We'll all be breathlessly awaiting the signings in the coming months....
