ATTENTION: Forum stays for now; apologies

Just to be clear, this forum will remain as is for the time being.  We will eventually migrate to the new software, but hopefully when we do it'll be fully functional and ready to house such a large network.

More importantly, I want to apologize to everyone for the lack of information communicated to you guys from our end, especially pre-migration.  This is something that came to my attention just a few days ago and we honestly had no idea that the changes were going to be so drastic. Ultimately we were left almost completely in the dark about what to expect and when to expect it.

The software was such a disaster that none of us even had admin/mod powers on the new forum to make adjustments to the aesthetic or assist users with log-in and posting issues.

This is the only correspondence I've had with anyone involved with the new software and I received it just late last night/early morning around 1:30 AM from Melissa Lockhard:

Sorry for the delay in responding. We have been struggling badly with the new software and have made the decision tonight to pull back on it until we can fix the issues we have been having (including admin powers not transferring over). We are going to leave up the new sites as Beta versions for people to play with while we work on enhancements on the backend, but the old sites will return to being our home for the time-being.

So that's pretty much the only official statement I have about the new software.  But it looks like we'll be sticking around here for a while longer, and hopefully whenever the changes are put back into effect, Fox will have a better grip on the new software, making for a much better posting experience for all involved.

Again, my apologies.  You guys deserved better.  Frankly, we all did.

Thanks Dock.

It would be nice if they abandoned that software altogether and went for some other alternative. I go around to forums for other reasons (Android, other Tech, Slickdeals, etc.) and that software we were about to migrate to is potentially the worst I have ever seen from an aesthetics and load time standpoint.

Just one thing to add, the main reason for the new software is all about becoming more friendly to smart phones, tablets and other portable devices. I understand that the logging in will be made easier across platforms and as you all know, there are many platforms. We will let you all know as soon as we have any information...Rich

I think February would make sense...off season for college football, NFL, and MLB (though college basketball would be in its stretch run, but there will never be a perfect time).

That would also give them 3-4 months to fix the issues with the version we saw.

Are you familiar with that specific type of software or are you basing that opinion on our experience?  I'm genuinely curious because even though I was completely disillusioned with the experience, I can't imagine that most of the problems we encountered won't be fixed whenever we make the trek for good.

February does make the most sense because college sports drive this network, especially from a subscriber standpoint.

I don't think baseball is given much consideration when Scout/Fox make their decisions.  College and NFL forums receive exponentially more traffic.

I'm not aware of a single baseball forum that regularly has more than 200-300 viewers at one time.  To my knowledge, the Yankees and Braves probably have the two largest viewerships, somewhere in that 200-300 range.

Some college teams regularly have 1,000+ viewers.  That imo is why Fox wanted to switch to a more mobile/tablet friendly software, because those college students and recent graduates are all viewing, reading, and posting from their phones and tablets.  They aren't a bunch of dinosaurs like us. tongue

I am not familiar with the software. I was merely basing it on the experience of the forums and largely the aesthetics. If they are able to fix the functionality and also make it more aesthetically pleasing, then I am sure we will all be happy.

It just looked and felt very cheesy and clunky. Almost like something that is a cheap add on to a non-forum site. Getting rid of those military-esque patches and the "high five" concept would go a looong way to improving it, and those fixes seem simple enough. I also think the social media integration is silly and unnecessary, but I understand why they would feel its an important concept for the future. I feel that way because I believe the vast majority of us are content with living in our own Scout Mets universe and do not need to connect outside of that.

Gotcha, BIMM.  That at least gives me a little hope.  What we saw and briefly experienced was nothing short of unacceptable, but I have to think the reason they decided to go back to the drawing board is because they expected and continue to expect better performance from the software.

The layout might not change much, though we should have some ability to make tweaks to the aesthetic, but at a minimum I can't imagine that Fox won't do everything in their power to resolve all the technical issues that made the forum almost completely inoperable the first go round.

I hope so anyway.

Just a FWIW- I've been reading/postng on these boards via my cell for many years and on 4-5 different phones with no problem at all. Maybe they can make it more portable device friendly but to me that was never really a problem in the first place.

+1.. I've accessed via iPod, iPhone and my HTC Sensation with nary a murmur over the last four or five years. Load times are quick and, in any event, the current format is hardly gpu intensive.

The more likely rationale is that Foxsports want a complete re-branding.

Just read on my NFL scout board that they will again be attempting to migrate to the new Fox set up around April 25. No post count and no avatars. Here we go again. Amazing that they decide to do these thing right around the start of the MLB season and the NFL draft.

Hopefully it isn't as big of a disaster as it was last time. Too bad about the avatars.

Aware this may be an April 1 fool, but if so, it's stupid. The supposed plan was that we would be migrating to the new board when the kinks are ironed out. I guess that means it's only a matter of when???

Hi, i've been here since 2005. Will we be going to a completely different url? How is this going to go down. I know you've probably answered this 1000000 times, but can you give me an update on what this is about exactly?

The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.

LETS GO METS!
