OT: Teahen dealt to ChiSox; Kotsay Re-Signed for 1-year

The Daily News learned the White Sox have agreed to send second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields to the Royals for Mark Teahen, who is expected to replace Jermaine Dye as Chicago's right fielder.

Teahen hit .271 with 12 homers and 50 RBI for the Royals in '09, but in 77 games lifetime against the White Sox he has batted .277 with 12 homers and 41 RBI, which may explain why they wanted him on their side.

Hope this doesn't mean we trade for Dye.  noidea

Isn't Dye a FA? Or do the White Sox hold an option for 2010?

They have an mutual option built-into his contract -- $12MM ($1M buyout)....we'll see how they decide to do this.

Part of me says there's absolutely no way the Sox pick it up, coming off a terrible 2nd half -- but there's always the option to pick it up, with the intent to deal him (like I would've liked the Mets to have done with Delgado last winter).

gotta love Kenny Williams. Regardless of what you think about this particular deal, the guy is always working and fearless about pulling the trigger.

could mean there's an opening at 2B on the south side.

Say the Sox are, in fact, interested in Castillo's services....just for the sake of talking.

Castillo's owed, what -- another $12MM over the next 2 seasons?

White Sox pick up the option on Dye, and deal straight up?

Mets pick up a LF-er; and have an opening at 2nd base to pursue someone with more punch who's just as good - if not better - defensively?

Could you see something like that happening?

As much as this does present us with some different options, Dye had a horrific 2nd half --

well........Dye had a limited no trade clause to 6 teams in the Northeast for 2009.  That pretty much tells me he wants no part of NYC.

Nice move by Dayton Moore.  Teahen made 3.5 last yr so he was probably headed to 4 mil at least and was likely a non tender candidate.   Instead, he picks up 2 somewhat interesting prospects.   Fields has major power.  Not sure why Chicago wants Teahen and his 12-15 homers.

True.

Just pulled up his contract information on COTS; and saw that very-same limitation.  That was applicable to the 2009 year.....so I'm wondering if the Limited NTC carries over in 2010?

Or could they just pick up the option and send him off to whoever they make a deal with....

funny thing is that I had Getz and Fields coming back to the Mets in one or more scenarios involving deals with the ChiSox.  As far as Dye, I don't see why they wouldn't just pay him the $1M and let him walk.

If they are open to dealing Pierzinski, I could see him being a part of a Met transaction... Castillo & Pagan for Pierzinski & Linebrink maybe.  That would lop off about $10M in salary for the Sox... tho AJ has NT protection... noidea

I want no part of Jermaine Dye on the Mets...

My Want List: Crawford, Scutaro, Branyan, Kendall, Counsell, Garland, Sheets, Beimal, Nady

Neither do I; but I have the suspicion that he's been on Met-dar for the past couple of years -- and that if they swing and miss on guys like Holliday and Bay [which could very-well happen], he might become more of a reality.

Personally, I'd be wary of another Moises Alou situation with Dye....with whoever picks him up, especially in the NL.

obvious thing regarding the ChiSox 2B situation now is that they will be far more likely to grab one of the FA 2Bmen now rather than to want to trade for a fading player like Castillo unless the Mets can sweeten the deal in some aggressive way.  imo that's really teh only chance the Mets have of dealing LC.

You never know, but if I am Kenny Williams there is no way I do that deal.  I'd rather buy-out Dye and sign one of the FA 2B than be stuck with Castillo for the next two season's.

I like many of us would love to dump Castillo elsewhere this off season but with 2 years left on his deal, I don't see it happening.  Only way I see the Mets getting rid of Castillo is by buying him out.  And coming off a solid Castillo year (for him), I can't see Omar admitting a mistake and buying him out.  The Mets have bought out players in the past (Rickey, Bonilla, etc.) so I don't think it's ownership, I think it's Omar being too stuborn to admit mistakes and standing by his decisions.

Shhhhh....lol

And yes -- I totally agree with the last part.  There would likely have to be more going back than Castillo for them to make that kind of deal.

which would mean including a Pagan, Francoeur, Pelfrey or any of several highly regarded prospects. noidea

I'd also be looking at Parnell if I were the Sox.....since Dotel's basically gone; and one never knows with Linebrink from year-to-year.

This has little chance of happening, but I'm bored this morning.

Pretty good bet that Dye is gone but the Sox may be serious about going after Figgins for their speed/lead-off guy.  That would mean he plays 3rd, Beckham goes back to SS and Ramirez takes over at 2nd. They can keep Quentin as DH and still keep Podzenick(another speed type guy )to play LF as well. Castillo might be a secondary or third option for them but I don't see Dye coming to the Mets in a swap...not after his second half.
