I wonder if any team is even going to give him a minor league contract for next season or will he just be out of baseball for good?

This was LONG overdue.  Bad signing.

Even though MDD deserved a promotion, I wish they had recalled Downtown Brown. The 25 man roster is too Lefty- heavy.

I think this is about Alderson.  If Chris Young stayed here all season with the extension talk of late, he'd get fired.  It's not coincidence that this came up and then days later Young gets DFA'd

This is one of Alderson's conditions of coming back by the Wilpons that will be kept quiet by the media.  Alderson kept Young in as long as he could but he'll choose his job over Young

Re: Chris Young DFA'd

I think this is just all part of probably unofficially conceding the season, as the other threads talked about. Once we dropped 2 of 3 to the Nats and 3 of 4 to the Giants, it was time to take the hard look and make the call to play Flores, recall MDD, DFA Young, etc.

What a bomb signing. Ugly bomb.

"Only" 7.5 million.....guy was a zero from the moment he put on a uniform.

Awful signing...and early in the process of FA.

Re: Chris Young DFA'd

I think that this is actually all about Alderson's ego. If he had his way, he would have kept CY around the entire season and would have released Osvaldo instead. Alderson doesn't care about winning or the fans. All Alderson cares about is Alderson and Chris Young was an instrument that he was using to inflict the fans with his own ego. I bet that Jeff Wilpon actually forced Alderson to do this, too. So, thank you Jeff Wilpon. I hope that the rest of you thank him as well.

Exactly.  Time to move on and they made the right move.  Hopefully, Colon's strong outing will facilitate his departure as well.

He's been a replacement level player for approximately one season's worth of playing time. There's a strong chance he'll bounce back and be a marginally useful player in 2015+. Some team will give him some kind of deal. I think there's a good chance some team picks him up for the remainder of 2014. That said, I'm happy that Young is gone, mostly so we can stop talking about him. He's not part of the future. It's time to find out what MdD and Kirk are.

I can imagine some team giving him a minor league contract and hoping that he has a good season like Marlon Byrd did with the Mets. Though that's really what the Mets should have done with him this season instead of giving him that ridiculous $7 million plus contract. Byrd was really valuable at the deadline because he was owed such a small amount of money. CY didn't even have that going for him this season.

Even Frank Cashen had a few clunkers ( e.g., Ellis Valentine). Sandy made four big moves this year: Grandy, Bartolo, Young, and choosing Duda over Ike. Looks like he is three for four at the moment.
