June 14th, 2014 GDT: Padres @ Mets (Hahn vs. Wheeler) 4:10 pm

Mets Padres
1. Ruben Tejada – SS 1. Will Vendable – CF
2. Daniel Murphy – 2B 2. Everth Cabrera – SS
3. David Wright – 3B 3. Seth Smith – LF
4. Bobby Abreu – RF 4. Chase Headly – 3B
5. Lucas Duda – 1B 5. Yonder Alonso – 1B
6. Chris Young – LF 6.Yasmani Grandal – C
7. Taylor Teagarden – C 7.Cameron Maybin – CF
8. Matt den Dekker – CF 8. Alexi Amarista – 2B
9. Zack Wheeler - RHP 9. Jess Hahn - RHP

The Mets continue their three-game series with the Padres today at Citi Field. Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.19 ERA) starts for the Mets, opposed by Jesse Hahn (0-1, 9.82 ERA) for San Diego.

Hahn will once again be called on by the Padres today, but San Diego is hoping for better results this time out. He was pounded in his MLB debut and was forced out of the game after just 3.2 innings. He’ll be making the jump from AA and his longest start of the season in the minors is just 5.2 innings.

Wheeler wasn’t on his “A” game in his last outing, but prior to that he had strung together three straight very impressive starts. He’ll take on MLB’s lowest scoring team, the San Diego Padres, at home where he owns a 3.28 ERA this season. Wheeler currently is averaging more than a strikeout per inning this season.

BTW, where are the players SA and PDP drafted and developed when they were running SD?

By this time is when they should be coming up.

Very telling.

So true Stacks. Padres are one of the few teams in MLB worse then the Mets every year.

Wheeler getting crushed again.

Tejada's lack of awareness on the base paths costs us a run.

The dreaded sig of doom has chosen future hall of famer Jason Heyward as its target.

May the baseball gods have mercy on your soul!

It's amazing Wheeler's 1st inning issues. ERA over 6 in the 1st. The alarming thing is he's not getting his curve over.

Was Alderson in charge of day to day baseball operations when he was in San Diego? I thought that he was the CEO.

Also to Google Boy's defense, perhaps his Excel spreadsheets were not fine tuned by then.

He's on the verge of dropping below .200 again. I have to believe he will be out of baseball after this year-who would give this guy money?

Young took a horrible route to that ball. This clown sucks in the OF and at the plate.

Horrific signing.

Pretty lame effort by Young on that gapper by Headley that den Decker made the great backup play and throw to nail Headley. Young' defense has not been very good, while his offensive output has been just like last year--terrible. Fail by Alderson.

Sandy Alderson.
I thought of that as soon as I typed it; just Sandy proving he's smarter than everyone else.

Given how bad the Padres are offensively, so far a bad effort by Wheeler.

Wheeler struggling to get out of the 4th inning under 90 pitches, walks the #8 hitter on 4 pitches to put a runner in scoring position, then gives up a RBI blooper to the pitcher.

Would have liked to see him a bit further along than he is at this point. With his fastball, this is a team he should dominate. Oh well, young pitchers sometimes take 2 or 3 years to hit their stride. noidea

Encouraging that the SNY staff showed those numbers from Scherzer, Felix, Kershaw and Wainwright being worse then Wheelers over first 30 starts, but you'd still like to see him pitch a lot better then he has.

Doesn't seem to me he has a lot of FB command--he just kind of cranks it up there, and it's straight as an arrow. His breaking stuff hasn't had the bite it usually does, so he's been struggling to put guys away.

The crew made a good point about how spoiled we might have been by Harvey and the start he got off to--it's unusual for even the top prospects to make that kind of impact from day 1 as a ML pitcher.
