GDT June 12, 2014 Brewers @ Mets, Lohse vs Niese

Mets Brewers
1. Daniel Murphy – 2B 1. Rickie Weeks – 2B
2. Bobby Abreu – RF 2. Ryan Braun – RF
3. David Wright – 3B 3. Jonathan Lucroy – C
4. Lucas Duda – 1B 4. Carlos Gomez – CF
5. Chris Young – CF 5. Aramis Ramirez – 3B
6. Andrew Brown – LF 6. Khris Davis – LF
7. Wilmer Flores – SS 7. Mark Reynolds – 1B
8. Anthony Recker – C 8. Jean Segura – SS
9. Jon Niese – LHP 9. Kyle Lohse – RHP

T
he Mets stopped a 6 game losing streak Tuesday with a win in the series opener against the Brewers. Did they start another losing streak last night? The only way to find out is to tune in at 6:10 CDT (7:10 for you right coasters).  You'll be treated to the sight of yet another new lead-off hitter in Daniel Murphy, as Terry does not take the freely offered advice to try batting Murphy cleanup. Instead, TC has benched his previous leadoff hitter Ruben Tejada, with Wilmer Flores making a rare guest appearance in the lineup batting 7th and playing SS. Hopefully he was able to remove all the splinters he collected since his last start one week ago when he went 2 for 5 with a 2B, which was apparently not good enough to justify starting for another 7 days. I suppose when there are so many good hitters on the roster, it's hard to find playing time for all of them.

27 year-old Jon Niese is having his best year as a Met to date, with a 2.68 ERA in 12 starts, averaging 1.15 WHIP in 77.3 IP with 6.3 K/9. His W-L record of 3-3 is not reflective of the quality starts he has delivered.

He is opposed on the mound by 35 year-old Kyle Lohse, who is also having a solid season, with a 3.27 ERA. His W-L record of 7-2 is more reflective of the run support he has received from the Brewers, who sport a number of good RHH in one of the better lineups Jon Niese will negotiate his way through this season.

Realistically...that's not the worst lineup in the world considering whose in it.

The dreaded sig of doom has chosen future hall of famer Jason Heyward as its target.

May the baseball gods have mercy on your soul!

Wright's 1 for his last 31 maybe take him out of the 3 hole or something. Gotta get him going he's 31 looking like a 40 year old.

Chris Young is like 6 for his last 30...

They need the win...
Getting old saying this, maybe I should stop.

Team has to find a way to string some wins together!!!

Some more team stats: at 29-36, the Mets are 7 games below .500, the first time this year they've drifted that far south of the equator. The 6.5 games out of first is also their furthest excursion from the division lead they've yet to hold. If they win 61 of their remaining 97 games they will achieve the oft-quoted 90-win challenge posed by Sandy Alderson at the beginning of the season, and also likely win the division.

Weren't they 7 games below .500 two games ago? And they had an even worse winning percentage at that time. So they've actually improved by going 1-1 in their last 2 games! Gotta look at the bright side. cool

I've never seen Niese so not in control of his emotions in a long time.

EDIT: OH GOD ANGEL HERNANDEZ IS THE HOME PLATE UMP.

The fact that he still has a job is an indictment of MLB.

Nice AB from CY..  Called 3rd strike right down the middle.

Lohse pounding the strike zone and putting Sandy's Mets in a hole in each AB.

There's only one thing worse than a bad team; and that's a boring team. The Mets are both and until they get some offense and start winning they won't capture the imagination of the fans. That statement a couple of weeks ago "the payroll will go up when the revenues do" is backwards and reflects a poor view of the reality of the situation, and a poor understanding of the NY market.
