Cubs taking Schwarber is good for the Mets.

Good if you want Conforto, which I don't.

Mets may very well have Turner, Newcomb and Conforto to choose from.

Re: 2014 MLB Draft Thread

Mets will get to pick from at least two of the three guys most mocked to them.  And with some rumblings of Pentecost going to Toronto, the Mets could be looking at their rumored top three preferences.

Re: 2014 MLB Draft Thread

Conforto:

There's no doubting Conforto's offensive ability, with above-average power from the left side and a solid approach at the plate, but a severe lack of defensive value hurts his value considerably.

At the plate, Conforto has average bat speed, though he rotates his hips well and gets his hands moving quickly. He also has plus power to the pull side. He works counts well and is willing to go the other way when necessary, and patience shouldn't be an issue at the plate. He's a well below-average runner, however, and adds little value on the bases.

Defensively, however, Conforto is a bit of a mess. He doesn't get good jumps on the ball in the outfield, and when he does get to the ball he has a poor throwing arm that runners can take extra bases on.

So he's slow and has a bad arm. That's a guy I want in my outfield. eek1

His power only plays now to his pull side. Have heard that his power could only play at the 15-20 level given metal to wood change and power to pull side only

I get that you expect growth on these guys, but you got a slow, unathletic defender with a below average arm who is a pull only hitter. This guy projects as what? Duda? Newcomb had ace potential, or in this slot I would have taken one of the catchers. They are valuable commodities. Strange pick. I dont get it. Please help me, anyone on here. What am I missing?
