O/T: Fielder to Texas for Kinsler

O/T: Fielder to Texas for Kinsler

Agreed upon, per Heyman.

The Rangers and Tigers have agreed on a blockbuster deal to send Prince Fielder to Texas for Ian Kinsler, pending CBSSports.com has learned.

There could be another player involved in the trade as potential well, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Physicals would be needed if the trade id completed.

The Rangers made a play for Fielder when he was a free agent a couple years ago before the Tigers signed him for $214 million over nine years.

Trading Kinsler would open second base for Jurickson Profar. Texas has been looking for added punch to its lineup.

The Tigers had been floating Max Scherzer as a trade possibility. But a deal of Fielder could possibly free up extra cash to try to sign Scherzer long-term.

Fielder has a limited no-trade clause, but it isn't known if it includes Texas.

Really like this trade short-term for the Rangers.  Long-term, not so much.

Overall, probably a big win for Detroit.

I think it's win-win (before knowing details).  Huge deal, and potentially huge effect on the rest of the hot stove season:

Tigers keep Scherzer now?  Castellanos now their third baseman?
Rangers still after McCann?  Will they bring back Cruz?

Wow. Wonder if Fielder's non-performance in the last 2 playoffs had anything to do with it.

Gotta be part of the equation. They basically had three 1B/DH with Miggy, Victor and Prince. It makes so much sense to move one of them not named Cabrera.

Detroit needs to move Castellanos back to 3B.

eek

That's a pretty cool trade.   Should be a limited win-win......depending upon who might go to the Tigers along with Kinsler.......something tells me they should get somebody else off of the Rangers....although I don't know who.

Wow.    Fielder should be a solid fit in Texas, as well.   That certainly helps the middle of their lineup out.   Fielder and Beltre back-to-back is pretty formidable.

I wonder if this frees up money for Detroit to go after Beltran.

Question: Which two baseball teams are an Italian's favorite?

Answer:  The A's and O's

I called it . . . sort of.

I said the Tigers would trade Fielder if they did notnwin the series . . . yet said they would unload the contract to sign Cano (so that's not happening with Kinsler coming back).

Was thinking this is the type of move SA would need to make to turn the offense around. Who knows, maybe Texas isn't done dealing.

Actually, Kinsler had a significantly higher WAR than Fielder last year.  Fielder is an awful defensive player and Kinsler is a great defensive player.

Final deal: Detroit trades Prince Fielder + $30M to Texas for Ian Kinsler. TEX gets Prince for 7/$138M, DET gets Kinsler for 4/$62M + $30M.

Re: O/T: Fielder to Texas for Kinsler

Fielder has 7/$168MM left on his contract and according to Fox Sports are sending "less than $50 million" to the Rangers, which means its probably close to $50 million.

If Texas basically gets Fielder for 7/$120-ish, how does that affect the free agent market?

It could kill the asking price for massively overweight, unathletic guys who want 7 year deals. :-)

This deal kind of sucks for the Tigers.

Buyer's remorse.

Tigers pay $76M for 2 years of Prince. Fear that he ages like his old man who was washed up his early 30s

Makes some sense for both teams...LOVE it for Texas...Profar is now freed up...that lineup should rake.

Cabrera's more valuable at 3rd, it'll be interesting to see how he does back at 1st

Castellanos should have 3rd base now for Detroit.

Cabrera would be more valuable if he could still play 3B, but those days appear to be ending. He was passable in 2012, but putrid in 2013. After his various injuries? The Tigers are better served by keeping him healthy and limiting his defensive exposure.

I like it for both sides and I love it that just popped out of the blue without being rumored for 6 weeks.

Nothing like that awesome moment in sports wen a major transaction occurs that no one saw coming.
