Could be worse, but still sucks.  Obviously we want him to keep getting his hacks in AAA in spending some time with Wheeler, but not the end of the world.

Less worried about the ABs, more worried about the reps behind the plate.

Hopefully he takes the time to study a lot of film and build his game calling knowledge base...

he needs a couple more years in the minors before he's really ready.

Would it be allowed to have him travel with the Mets while he is on the AAA DL?   I guess it probably isnt, but for a catcher it would be helpful to have around the team, in the meetings with Buck and the pitchers etc..

Re: d'Arnaud out with broken toe

Is it his toe, or his foot? -- would suck if he missed significant time.

D'Arnaud suffered a nondisplaced fracture of the first metatarsal while attempting to catch a foul ball, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said.

it's his toe.....it SOUNDS like it's about a 6 week injury, give or take.

The first metatarsal's behind the big toe.  Rubin's written it in a way that leads you to believe it's the whole foot.

Additionally -- this is from Will Carroll
:

Travis d'Arnaud's fracture is in a very difficult place for catcher, on instep. Will cost him significant time, second lost season.

Uh-oh.
Mets trade away reigning CY Young award winner.
Still have the best pitcher in Baseball.

Carroll's been wrong before about stuff. And I think he's talking "omg worst case scenerio" type of thing. It's a bit of an overreaction to say it's a lost season for a guy when we are still in mid-april and he has a displaced toe fracture
It completely sucks and it's beyond frustrating, but it's not like it's his wrist, knee, shoulder....something that would effect his play. This just sucks because of the recovery time.

I'm not saying he's a doctor, or is even remotely in the park - regarding what it might mean, in terms of time lost.  My question surrounds whether or not it's just your routine broken toe, or the entire instep of his foot ---- which it sounds like it is.

Hopefully, it's a best case for d'Arnaud.

RE: d'Arnaud out with broken toe

Mets catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture in his left big toe.

The talented young backstop has been fitted with a walking boot and will be held out of action indefinitely at Triple-A Las Vegas. He is not expected to join the Mets until June anyway, so the organization can play this thing as safe as they'd like. D'Arnaud is headed to New York to be examined by team doctors.

Doesn't sound too alarming to me noidea

Re: d'Arnaud out with broken toe

Obviously the super 2 issue is settled at this point....even if he's healed before the cutoff they'll probably want to give him a bit more AAA playing time.

Just hoping it's not the "lost season" scenario Carroll is talking about.
