Looks right to me.  My impression is the only unknown is Turner's health.  If he's DL bound, I'd guess that opens up the door for Lutz to stay.  Otherwise, it's Vegas for Lutz.

Re: Final 25 man roster?

If you are choosing between Lutz and Kirk, you might as well have a back up CF. Lutz isn't going to get off the bench unless Turner is hurt.

But wouldn't it be nice to have Lutz to pinch hit in a key situation instead of Kirk?

Aren't Valdespin and Cowgill gonna platoon?

Are both Cowgill and Byrd gonna play everyday?

Wow, that's a pretty accurate 25 man roster and a pretty bad team. Not that I'm surprised, it just looks uglier on my screen. frown

RE: Final 25 man roster?

I doubt Valdespin will play CF if we can have Kirk around, which is sort of my point. Kirk is probably the 25th guy here, but having lutz here so he can pinch hit once every 4 days seems like a minor "meh."

Gonna be a rough year.  Fortunately, Harvey, Wheeler, and TDA should give us hope for the future.

And thus spake Bellavista. Rough may not adequately cover it.

An injury or two to an important piece like Wright or Ike or Niese and you might be looking at 95 losses.

Next yr cant come soon enough.

I guess the most important element to 2013 is the progress of guys like Montero, Syndergaard, Tapia, Flores, Nimmo etc..   I.E....the pieces that will be used to add a bat for next yr.  We will be under 50 mil in payroll after this yr, so I gotta assume we will buying a bat through the trade market.

Wouldn't it be nice to pile together some pieces for Tulowitzki?

Tulo would be interesting.  Would still prefer a corner outfielder if we want a bat, but someone has to lose the Stanton sweepstakes.

Look on th ebright side, no one except Wright is blocking anyone.
Mets trade away reigning CY Young award winner.
Still have the best pitcher in Baseball.

But he is blocking THE one hitting prospect who may really turn out to be very very good. Lets hope Flores can handle 2nd base.

Re: Final 25 man roster?

Bright side: there are some more players with actual upside on the roster this season, and a couple of our best prospects are in the wings and likely to be up midseason. Not a guarantee of success, but better a younger crew with room to improve than an older set on it's way out the door.

Not-so-bright side: As mentioned above, one major injury to somebody like Wright or Davis, and this could get ugly.

John Adams: At a stage in life when other men prosper, I'm reduced to living in Philadelphia!
Mike "Doc" Emrick: THEY SCORE! HENRIQUE!! IT'S OVER!!!

I still think Fowler would be a more reasonable option for the Mets. I think he will come cheaper and fills your biggest need.

Re: Final 25 man roster?

This is gonna be ugly, but as others have said, there are a few things to watch and root for....Parnell/Familia in the pen, can Duda reestablish some value, Wheeler/Niese in the rotation, Ike, TDA/Wheeler here by July, the kids on the farm, etc.

Re: Final 25 man roster?

Just now, listening to the Met game on WFAN they said that the Mets still have one more roster cut to make.  It is between Niewenhaus and Lutz, just as I speculated.  I cannot believe the Mets are seriously considering keeping Kirk at this point in time.  He has been awful this Spring, limited by injuries, and had not had much of a chance to improve upon his last season because he got hurt as soon as he got to AAA.

Keep Lutz, IMO.
