GDT 2/23/13: Mets vs Nationals (Marcum-Strasburg)
metsblog has the lineup for today's exhibition game and it appears that the Mets are intending to start the starting lineup (except Turner is in for Murphy). What makes me sick is that Byrd is starting in RF. Why the love for Byrd? I will be so pissed if he wins the RF job. Everyone else is as expected.

My point is that he appears to be the one the Mets see as the favorite. That is what worries me.

Tejada with a two-run bomb.
Impressive at-bat by Kirk leading off the game, too.

Duda looks a little quieter in the box than he was in the past.

3-2 Nats in the bottom 2nd. Marcum done after 2 innings. gives up 5 hits and 3 earned runs.

headscalper wrote: Marcum getting bombed I'll be happily shocked if this turned out to be a good signing. Yeah, we know is the first ST game and all that good stuff. But the stuff is just not there. Didn't like the signing from hr 1. Great to see RT pop one. 5-7 HR, instead of 1-2 will go a long way into possibly posting a .730-750 OPS.

Very Nice.
Loved the 0-1 pitch to that last batter. Gun read 97 - 88 - 94. Not sure if by design, but playing with the speed like that is just filthy.

Wheeler walks Lombardozi and then throws a wild pitch, but then promptly retires Harper and the middle of the Nats order, striking out the last two, one on a 96 mph heater.

Can't believe they rolled out Gary Keith AND Ron for the very first game, heh.
(Also, really, stadium guy? Everybody Clap Your Hands in the 3rd inning of the first ST game? Take the hand off the console for an inning buddy...)

He's 22. If he was the complete package at 22 years old already, he'd have been in the Majors a year or two ago.
