Miami New-Times: Miami Clinic Supplies PED's to Big Names

This could potentially get very interesting - especially if what Heyman's saying to be true; that the players named in the piece can be suspended if allegations check out

Positive test not needed.

Hmmmmmmmm.......

Then check out the main column, where their real names flash like an all-star roster of professional athletes with Miami ties: San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera, Oakland A's hurler Bartolo Colón, pro tennis player Wayne Odesnik, budding Cuban superstar boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz. There's even the New York Yankees' $275 million man himself, Alex Rodriguez, who has sworn he stopped juicing a decade ago.

Read further and you'll find more than a dozen other baseball pros, from former University of Miami ace Cesar Carrillo to Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal to Washington Nationals star Gio Gonzalez. Notable coaches are there too, including UM baseball conditioning guru Jimmy Goins.

The names are all included in an extraordinary batch of records from Biogenesis, an anti-aging clinic tucked into a two-story office building just a hard line drive's distance from the UM campus. They were given to New Times by an employee who worked at Biogenesis before it closed last month and its owner abruptly disappeared. The records are clear in describing the firm's real business: selling performance-enhancing drugs, from human growth hormone (HGH) to testosterone to anabolic steroids.

.......I'd also be a bit on edge if I were a Miami Hurricane these days.

Never surprised when lists come out, as it was common-place.  I'm just pointing out that there will always be new names, provided you dig hard enough - and that's something to always keep in mind when discussing so definitively, names that should or shouldn't be enshrined in Cooperstown.

Playing against Miami, it never took a genius to know that a large majority of their players were doping - as they smacked HR-after-HR onto the practice football field - and over the parking garage way out in RF.  It's just interesting to see their strength and conditioning guy get named so publicly.....has to have at least a few of their current guys nervous.

To my knowledge, neither Nelson Cruz - nor Gio Gonzalez have been linked to anything yet.

For some guys, this could be a 2nd strike....if Heyman's right.

From CBS Sports - Texas chimes in on Cruz:

The Texas Rangers have issued a brief statement regarding Nelson Cruz's inclusion in this morning's report detailing his relationship with Anthony Bosch, who is under investigation for his connection to performance-enhancing drugs in South Florida. Here's the statement...

"The Texas Rangers were contacted late last week by Miami New Times regarding the story posted this morning. At that time, the Rangers contacted Major League Baseball on that inquiry. The team has no further comment."

Waiting for MLB to complete its investigation is standard protocol in this situation, and the Yankees will do the same with Alex Rodriguez according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.

Gio Gonzalez though, wow. First I'm hearing him linked to anything.

Also, A-Rod was buying from Bosch back in '09 when he slayed the post season dragon.

One funny part of that piece was Gio's father's "My son works very, very hard, and he's as clean as apple pie"

laugh.gif  What does that mean? "Clean as a whistle" and "As American as apple pie" I've heard many times but that's a new one for me....

Brian Cashman must be thanking whatever God he prays to right now, because this could be a big, flashing exit sign for that $140 million albatross around the Yankees necks.

Not sure how it is interpreted when your practice is selling federally banned substances.......

Regardless......this clearly doesn't seem like the most upstanding business that was ever created/practiced.

I really loathe the whole PED story.   There is no true way of really identifying every guy that is 'doping'.    Every fan has a right to question almost every player's ability given the findings of those that have been found guilty.   It's impossible not to implicate everyone.

Anyhow.....if it turns out these findings have weight.....it's obviously a shame.   In the interim....I don't look forward to the 24-48 hour debate about it.    Thankfully the Super Bowl madness might distract people away from the story.

If Dickey had lost the Cy Young award to Gio, I would really be fuming now.

They guy dispensing the PED's wasnt even a doctor, so can his clients really be considered "patients" for the purposes of privacy protection?

Gio seems pretty adamant about not using:

"In a statement issued through his representatives, Gonzalez said: "I've never used performance-enhancing drugs of any kind, and I never will. I've never met or spoken with Tony Bosch or used any substances provided by him. Anything said to the contrary is a lie."

the list of pro athletes who have denied PED use and who later confessed after unshakeable evidence had been produced is pretty long.  The NYT recently did a piece on this.  Not saying I have any info on Gio.  And I do believe anyone named has a right to due process so can't assume guilt.

Unfairly or not, I'm always going to flashback to Palmeiro when you get a real strong denial.

You know his dad is going to take the bullet on this one and say it was all for him, not Gio.

Since Arod doesnt have that trump card, his strategy is much simpler: if you admit its true, you probably lose over $100 million. If you lie, you might lose over $100 million, but there's a thread of a possibility that you might not. When you're an unprincipled slime like Arod, option B is easy.

Precisely.  Always interesting to see who comes out, guns-blazin' - and how it winds up playing out when all's said and done.
