Mets not impressed w/B. Wilson, but will give a 2nd look
Link
The Mets are showing strong interest in former Giants closer Brian Wilson, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (on Twitter). Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson watched Wilson yesterday in a private workout.
Before the New Year we learned that Wilson narrowed down his list of suitors in half from about nine or ten to approximately five. The Giants are open to a reunion but are only willing to give Wilson a deal with a low base salary and performance-based incentives. The 30-year-old made only two appearances in 2012 before suffering a season-ending elbow injury.

Re: Mets showing strong interest in Brian "The Beard"
That's a move that would excite the fan base.
Wilson - FF - Parnell has the potential to be a good backend... or a disaster. Still a risk worth taking.

Re: Mets showing strong interest in Brian "The Beard"
If he is available and will sign here, you have to make the move. If anything, it shows you are trying to rebuild our terrible pen.
The dreaded sig of doom has chosen future hall of famer Jason Heyward as its target.
May the baseball gods have mercy on your soul!

And if we stink but he pitches well, he'd be a nice trade chip. From 2009-2011, his numbers were right there with Mariano and Papelbon. Definitely a high reward move.

Re: Mets showing strong interest in Brian "The Beard"
What exactly is "strong interest"?

RE: Mets showing strong interest in Brian "The
I think that is what the thinking was in giving Francisco the 2yr deal. In that we could have moved him at the deadline. That never made any sense to me...But, in this case it would actually be true w/ Wilson as long as he remains healthy & is effective on the hill.
At 30 yrs old he could also be the solution to our closer needs over the next handful of years.

Wonder what his agent is trying to get for him?

Ohh, for the love of God.... Please, no. I cant take watching this attention whore night after night. Not to mention, yet another guy that Alderson is pursuing, who basically has a needle sticking out his ***. When will he learn? Give me a break.

Would be a nice add at a reasonable contract. That would be a move to improve the pen.

Yes. Write that into the contract. He might be worth a shot but I agree I'm not big on the "attention grab" from him.

I'm a fan of beards, and am a guy who has one. That being said - he looks like an idiot because he clearly dyes it, and a hard unnatural black, at that. It looks fake or made of plastic.

The only reason to sign him is because of his beard. He is really bizarre. The Mets could use some bizarre on the team.

Yeah, it's not that he wears a beard but it's so blatantly unnatural in the color that it makes him look ridiculous. it looks like one of those fake Lincoln beards that someone woud wear for Halloween.

Sandy Alderson says he's "not sure" if Mets will extend an offer to Brian Wilson, who worked out for them yesterday.

There is a fine line between bizarre and irritating. Maybe he is on the irritating side! It starts out as bizarre and then turns into irritation, when the attention whore amps it up. Dennis Rodman was bizarre for awhile and then he started dying his hair and wearing dresses and trying very hard to be outrageous.
